Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant

Esse Health is the largest independent physician practice in the St. Louis Metropolitan area with over 75 physicians, in 28 locations serving nearly 250,000 patients.  As the area’s largest independent physician practice, Esse Health is able to work with insurers as a group.  This allows our physicians to manage the care of their patients with less of the outside intervention that is currently prevalent in the managed care industry.

Summary:

Our Florissant office is currently looking for a phlebotomist/medical assistant to work in our busy North County location, they will perform a variety of routine tests and process patient lab specimens, according to established laboratory policies  and procedures. They will assist the lab technician as well as assist as a medical assistant when needed.

Preferred Qaulifications: 

Formal training which will probably be indicated by a high school diploma or equivalent; two years college course work in a biological science; certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician; previous experience in a clinical laboratory, preferably in a medical group setting; ability to work with patients, physicians and support staff.



Physical guidelines include ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours per day, perform venipuncture on patients up to eight hours per day, use laboratory instruments for up to eight hours per day, distinguish colors, corrected vision to normal range.

 Other Duties Include:

1.  Perform a variety of routine lab tests including but not limited to venipunctures, urinalysis, wet mount smears, KOHs, CBCs, glucose monitoring, pregnancy, throat cultures, and rapid streps.

 

2.  Operate equipment and instruments necessary to perform routine laboratory tests; recognize instrument malfunctions and make simple corrections.

 

3.  Collect and prepare human samples for analysis by Central Lab or outside laboratories; store and transport samples using appropriate preservation methods; obtain and distribute test results to physicians.

 

4.  Maintain refrigerator temperature controls.

 

5.  Ensure compliance with OSHA and CLIA laboratory rules and regulations; clean and disinfect lab on a daily basis; follow safety guidelines regarding laboratory practices.

 

6.  Maintain lab records and statistics of tests performed.

 

7.  Maintain lab policy manual.

 

8.  Assist other departments during slow periods.

 

9.  Perform other duties as assigned.
