Pharmacy Technician - Menomonee Falls

Job Description Assists pharmacist with the servicing of pharmacy customers. Takes and records initial demographic and other required information. Inputs required information into computer system for record keeping, insurance verification and label generation purposes. Under supervision of pharmacist, prepares appropriate medication. This includes selecting product, counting or reconstituting and packaging of product. Performs retail functions of "ringing out" customers. This usually occurs once pharmacist has provided consultation concerning prescription. Performs limited insurance and third party billing functions. Enters customer demographics into computer. Enters customer third-party information into computer. Obtains prior authorizations from appropriate third-party carriers, and is familiar with rules. Maintains paper files of prior authorization. Investigates and corrects errors in submission to third parties. Handles private insurance, workers compensation, and third-party insurance coverage and prescription-related issues. Provides general clerical or miscellaneous duties to ensure efficient operation of the pharmacy. The duties listed below are a representation of what may be required and will vary depending upon the needs of that particular pharmacy. Inventory control to include the duties of ordering and stocking. Prepare medications for delivery or mailing. Occasionally deliver prescriptions. Bank deposits and post office. Prescription billing for physicians. General housekeeping and display set up. Prepare "night chart" of medications for urgent care clinic. Performs other duties as assigned or as necessity dictates. The pharmacy technician must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards appropriate to the individual pharmacy technician. The incumbent is responsible for adhering to established service standards.

General Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Retail pharmacy experience that includes the ability to independently read a prescription is required. Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment strongly desired. Previous third-party insurance or Medicare experience desirable. Computer skills with the ability to enter data and to access information from the pharmacy computer systems required. Strong customer service skills and mathematical aptitude required. Must have the ability to work independently, keep information confidential, take initiative, be organized and detail oriented.
