Position Description

 Family Assistant

 

 

FAMILY DEsCRIPTION:

 

Our client resides in a 3,200 square foot, home in Hampton Bays, New York.  The family consists of working father of a five year-old boy, of whom he has shared custody. The family also has a small dog with special needs.

 

They are seeking to hire a mature, caring, Family Assistant who is patient, flexible and meticulous to assist with childcare, light housekeeping and cooking, marketing, and running of the household.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·  Able to work legally in the U.S. (Green card or U.S. citizenship)

·  Able to read, write, and speak fluent English

·  Able to drive with a valid license and a clean driving record (MUST have driven children)

·  Highly organized and financially fluent in the operation of household and personal finances 

·  Good written and communication skills. Computer literate; able to do word processing, and use simple accounting software such as Quicken, etc.

·  Have verifiable references

·  Long term intent

·  In good health and physically capable to fulfill the duties of the position

 CHILDCARE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·  Will serve as the primary caregiver for the child when the father has custody

·  Provide a warm, caring and respectful environment for child.

·  Prepare simple, healthy balanced meals for the child.

·  Shop for clothing and items for the son.  Clean out and organize closets, review what items need replacing and are outgrown

·  Assist with maintaining supplies for children’s activities and school

·  Transport child to/from activities and appointments

·  With parents, establish simple, understandable rules that provide constant guidance

·  Will respond to appropriate and inappropriate behavior consistent with parent’s philosophy and practices

·  Assign age appropriate chores such as picking up toys, making beds, keeping room and household tidy, etc.

·  Abide by house rules (e.g. phone, TV, music use, guests, etc.).

·  Follow parent’s schedule for meals, playtime, bedtime, etc.

 

HOUSEHOLD RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·  General cleanliness is expected at all times.  Provide daily tidy and re-set of household. 

·  Clean up (dishes, counter tops, etc.) after meals

·  Load, wash and unload dishwater.

·  Organize and maintain all clothes, closets and drawers as needed by employer.

·  Light laundry duties as needed

·  Maintain a grocery list and see to it that there is ample supply of the Principal’s favorites.

·  Will ensure there is always a supply of fresh fruits and vegetables washed and on hand at all times.

·  Courteous, efficient and accurate handling of phones, doors, messages and deliveries, if needed.

·  Open and process all mail

·  Build and maintain a household and personal budgets

·  Pay bills and reconcile household banks accounts

·  Manage and track household petty cash

·  Maintain a filing system for household items such as warranties, maintenance contracts, and car

  registration)

·  Receive packages and deliveries.

·  If requested will schedule outside service providers, and will be in the home to greet them and

  supervise their work.

·  Supervise staff, contractors and vendors

·  If requested, attend to the vehicle needs such as gassing or maintenance.

·  Household errands: regular shopping for groceries and supplies (tissues, TP, etc.), keeping frequently used items stocked, etc.

·  Will walk and feed the family dog as needed, who does require some special care.

Prefer someone to LIVE IN but will accept someone LIVE OUT if they live locally and are flexible to stay over.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·  Assist with packing and unpacking for family vacations

·  Make airline and hotel reservation for parent and child

·  On rare occasion, when requested, accompany family when traveling

·  Check on home and collect mail when not traveling with family

 HOURS AND TERMS:

 

·  Salary commensurate with experience

·  Pre-employment physical and drug test may be required

·  Generally, the schedule will be Thursday through Monday.  Flexibility will be required to provide additional childcare as requested.

·  Contribution to health insurance

·  Annual salary and performance review
