More information can be found at www.covidien.com • The Product Manager, with minimal supervision, is responsible for the profitable operation of the assigned product line to include: a) working with and understanding the clinical needs of the customers; b) participating on assigned product development teams and performing all marketing responsibilities associated with the team and representing the needs of the customers to the team; c) developing and monitoring advertising and promotion plans for assigned product lines; d) developing, implementing and managing market plans for assigned products; e) consolidating and integrating sales forecasts from international business units; and f) effective staffing of organization, including hires and dismissal of employees when needed.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Provides primary input in the development, implementation and management of marketing plans for assigned products to include marketing objectives and strategies, product line content and packaging, pricing and profit goals, product development and engineering needs, and product line forecasting.• Evaluates new products and market opportunities and assists in screening, prototype evaluation, and market trials of these products.• Coordinates all plans and programs relating to the assigned product line with involved departments to assure that their needs are understood and are integrated into the total product marketing plan.• Gathers and evaluates all pertinent information and define the needs of the assigned areas of responsibility to include: a) determining the scope of information required and develops sources; b) collecting data from historical sales performance, market research, field visitations, maintains close communication with global sales management, and other departments as required to meet objectives; c) determining market potential and penetration, trade attitudes, brand image, competitive marketing strategy, and product life cycle; d) coordinating with the Sales Managers to assure that the plans and programs and the timing thereof, meet their needs and objectives, and e) communicating all pertinent information to the field sales organization in order to help sales of the product.• Develops and monitors advertising and promotion plans to assure that they meet the objectives of the product line.• Stays informed about industry development and trends.• Stays informed about competitors products and sales activities.• Coordinates activities with the Sales function to maintain effective relations with all customers and distributors.• Works closely with planning to ensure adequate safety stock levels and efficient inventory and production management.• Travels to customer locations to meet with current and prospective customers to receive input on product development and product change decisions.• Coordinates activities with Marketing Directors and Managers to assure product fit into total product portfolio.• Reports product line sales and profitability, and recommends corrective action where necessary to achieve established objectives.• Conducts product seminars and training for sales force and customers.• Maintains effective relations with both internal and external customers globally and coordinate activities with global sales management group in those areas where they are responsible.• Evaluates and researches product improvement and cost savings programs for product line(s) and recommends corrective actions, product enhancements, and opportunities necessary to achieve the marketing objectives.• Possesses product and clinical utilization expertise for assigned product lines.Requirements: OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Performs other duties and responsibilities, as required.PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:• US Sales Force. Participates with the sales force in ensuring that the sales effort devoted to the product line is commensurate with their product potential. Utilizes the sales force in obtaining data relative to customer acceptance and expectations and needs.• Communications. Provides knowledge of the product line and customers attitudes in establishing and evaluating the appropriate program, campaign necessary for advertising, conventions, national and international meetings, and customer promotional material.• Research and Development and Operations Engineering. Provides information and guidance in assuring that customer expectations and market requirements are provided in the design and packaging components of new and existing products for the product line.• Production Planning. Provides the sales and marketing plan through the Information Technology group for the purpose of formulating schedules, inventory control, and product quantities.JOB QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY:• Computer competent in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word• Knowledge, skill, and ability to create and analyze marketing plan objectives and strategies for the product line.• Prioritization and organization skills.• Effective verbal and written communication skills.• Manual coordination skills to operate personal computer key board in order to input and retrieve calculations needed to provide an ongoing assessment of sales forecasted to actual sales both in units and dollars.• Ability to write effective business plans, marketing plans and product plans.• Ability to review detailed sales reports and computer printouts.• Ability to prepare and execute product presentations to others.• Ability to train employees and customers in applications and use of products.• Position requires 40% domestic travel timeEDUCATION:• Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or related degree required, Masters degree or MBA preferred.EXPERIENCE:• Three (3) years of product management and/or sales experience in the medical device industry.
