Ophthalmic Technician II
Shift: Day shift Hours: M-F, 40 hrs/wk Grade: 8.0 Contact Information: Address: Boston, MA 02111 Job Details: - High school diploma or equivalent is required - 1-2 years experience is required Under general supervision of the Chief Ophthalmic technician and following established professional standards and procedures, helps facilitate patient flow and performs a variety of screening and technical diagnostic tests including manual lensometry and manual keratometry. Assists with patient contact lens removal and insertion and instilling eye drops as directed by physician. High school diploma and completion of ophthalmic, optometric, or medical assistant training program and/or AAO Home Study Course. Two years experience working in an ophthalmic practice and/or certified through JCAHPO (Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology ) at the assistant level. Also one year experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant. Knowledge of eye terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Very good interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with patients and understand their needs, and be responsive to the elderly and sensory handicapped. Also requires the ability to work closely and effectively with physicians and other clinic staff. Very good communication skills required to effectively explain the exam process to patients and attempt to allay their concerns and apprehensions. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assess the needs of patients of different age populations in order to provide care appropriately.TN
