Operations Manager, HIM
The Operations Manager, HIM manages the operations of the Health Information Management Department. Monitors, supervises and develops staff into a professional, organized, efficient department through planning, training, leadership and discipline, to ensure accurate, efficient, timely and cost effective services are provided. Develops and implements systems necessary to facilitate effective operations. Assesses system effectiveness and efficiency, and monitors status and compliance. Provides professional expertise interpretation of regulatory requirements, laws, and hospital policies. Communicates and maintains the vision, the performance expectations and the focus of the customer expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities
General Accountabilities:Maintains required licensure, certifications, education and mandatory requirements. Completes annual requirements on time (Employee Update, Health Assessment, PPD, Ethics Training, CPR and / or Professional Certification).Completes departmental key competencies and mandatory updates. Able to work with diverse populations (patient, staff, physicians) under difficult and stressful situations. Supports the team approach. Committed to Target 100 values. Knowledgeable of performance / process improvement (P.I.) methodology. Verbalizes knowledge of at least hospital-wide performance / process improvement activity. Offers suggestions for departmental and / or hospital-wide performance / process improvement. Intervenes to correct problems (patient and system) as they occur. Notifies manager / director of actions and outcome. Participates in the performance / process improvement process as a condition of employment. Completes required logs and quality controls as per hospital / department requirements (crash cart, 24 hour chart check, narcotic count, point of care testing, etc.).Sensitive information including, but not limited to, patient records, charts, hospital documents, and employee information is kept confidential without exception. Participates in hospital / departmental committees to improve service and streamline organizational processes.
Technical and Job Specific Skills:Supervises, trains, and develops HIM staff and volunteers so that efficient, timely and cost effective services are provided.Monitors the status of HIM projects; including timeliness, accuracy and appropriateness of documentation. Performs audits of the Physician’s Incomplete File. Assist and educate physicians and allied health personnel on health information issues. Act as a liaison with the Business Office, ISD and other organizational departments. Act as a liaison with outside contract services such as transcription and correspondence services. Performs clinical pertinence reviews.Evaluates employee performance according to criteria and defines guidelines. Recommends employees for hire, termination and promotion by presenting adequate rational for such actions. Conducts regular scheduled section meetings. Assures adequate coverage of shifts, and job functions.Maintains thorough knowledge of JCAHO, Title 22, consent law and other Regulatory requirements. Assists with the functions of product coordinator for Health Information Management Department.
Qualifications (include Education/Certification)
RHIA, RHIT Certification required.Minimum of 5-years experience in HIM Department of acute facility.Minimum of 2-years of supervisory experience as an assistant Director, HIM.Excellent knowledge of departmental computer systems and interactions with hospital-wide systems.
