The Backup Operator reports to the IT Operations Director. This position is responsible for all facets of backups/restores including, but not limited to: Software installationMaintenance hardware/softwareLT02 and abovePatch ManagementMonitoring, trends and usage/performance Backup/restore Administration of backup application and related OS Tiered Storage D2D2Tape Documentation and training

Other requirements include DR testing and development of improvements to existing DR methodologies. The review and refinements to related Policy and Procedures will be conducted as a scheduled event. Solid backup knowledge of the following systems is required: iSCSI; Fiber Channel SANs, Servers and local disks, OS, data base and misc. applications. Ensure the recovery of systems and applications for a large distributed organization.

The Backup Operator is required to backup, monitor, replicate and recover data housed on our current storage solutions. Proper notification setup/tests and maintenance is required. The candidate must posses the ability to identify h/w and s/w technical problems, storage and/or related system problems in addition to upgrade strategies within the backup environment.

The candidate will provide support via on-call and cell phone.

The Backup Operator is expected to initiate and manage necessary corrective action to insure optimal server / back up performance and coordinate server management activities. Will serve as a mentor to other IT staff; assist with infrastructure planning, design and development; throughput analysis, problem solving and will participate in various projects intended to continually improve and upgrade the backup environment.

Must be able to perform back up and restore activities using Veritas NetBackup MP 5.x/6.x on Windows, RH Linux and AIX. This position will provide Level 2/3 end-user support for matters related to the back ups and storage environment; and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies. The candidate will assist or lead other misc. IT related activities in conjunction to the backup responsibilities e.g. IT projects, maintenance, and system/application problem resolution.

Requirements: A minimum 4-6 years of IT experience, thorough Veritas knowledge - Commvault knowledge a plus.3 years of hands-on experience in the administration of storage hardware and tools e. g. High-Availability, Industry Standard Monitoring, and Replication Methodologies.3-4 years of experience in a 150+ server Data Center environment.3-4 years of Windows and UNIX system administration experience.Knowledge and experience working with fiber channel technology, fiber channel switches and fiber-scsi bridges.MCSE certification a plus
