Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, Bradford is an acute rehabilitation hospital that is centrally located on the Massachusetts border of New Hampshire to conveniently service patients throughout New England. Our team of interdisciplinary rehabilitation professionals provides inpatient, outpatient, and home health services.

House Manager 3p-11p Monday - Thursday
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1) Demonstrates a commitment to support the philosophy and policies of the Nursing Department and the Hospital.
1.1 Interprets philosophy, policies procedures and objectives of the hospital and the Department of Nursing to patients, families, community, physicians and staff.
1.2 Demonstrates and applies rehabilitation knowledge and skills to patient care.
1.3 Maintains current knowledge of hospital personnel policies.
1.4 Acts as administrative resource to the staff on assigned shift.
1.5 Investigates and reports specific incidents and/or problems requiring immediate intervention. Communicates actions and other pertinent facts to the Director of Nursing & Clinical Services, or the appropriate departmental personnel, in a timely fashion.
1.6 Initiates counseling and reinforces disciplinary action when appropriate.
1.7 Evaluates job performance of staff members on assigned shift.
1.8 Monitors staff attendance, sick time, vacation and holiday account.
1.9 Interprets data to identify patient’s requirements related to their age-specific needs in collaboration with the patient and family.
1.10 Implements specific interventions, treatments and/or care required by the adolescent through geriatric age groups.
2) The House Manager demonstrates a commitment to the standards of nursing practice as developed by the Nursing Department by monitoring the nursing process implemented in the delivery of care.
2.1 Acts as clinical resources to the staff on assigned shift.
2.2 Identifies nursing practice problems through 24-hour report, unit rounds, and patient rounds and assists in solutions in collaboration with appropriate others.
2.3 Participates in the development of standards of nursing practice and facilitates compliance with standards through education, CQI activities and counseling.
2.4 Participates in surveillance reports and nursing and hospital-wide CQI activities to improve nursing practice.
3) Promotes and maintains good working relationships with patient, nursing staff, and all other hospital department personnel.
3.1 Creates and maintains a positive public image.
3.2 Demonstrates good working relationship with nursing staff.
3.3 Relates effectively to medical staff and other department personnel.
3.4 Participates in Nursing Department meetings.
3.5 Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings.
3.6 Communicates promptly, accurately, and completely all specific incidents and problems related to unit functioning, patient care, and the staff to the Director of Nursing & Clinical Services or hospital administration.
4) Maintains efficient utilization of nursing and hospital resources in order to meet patient care needs.
4.1 Develops staffing schedule on assigned shift.
4.2 Makes staffing adjustments based on the policies and procedures of the deployment of nursing staff members between units.
4.3 Arranges for necessary supplies including medications and equipment in the absence of other departments.
4.4 Monitors contract services such as clinical lab, Pharmacy, etc. for their effectiveness in providing services.
4.5 Participates in cost containment measures, monitors overtime, supports budgetary goals and constraints.
5) Provides an environment that supports the clinical and professional development of staff and self.
5.1 Assists in meeting educational orientation of nursing personnel on assigned shift or as requested by the Director of Nursing & Clinical Services or Nursing Staff Development.
5.2 Plans and presents educational programs to staff on assigned shift.
5.3 Encourages staff to participate in educational programs and committees, other programs.
5.4 Determines and meets professional self-development needs.
5.5 Participates in committee activities of the Nursing Department and the hospital.
5.6 Participates in professional organizations.
6) Demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide geriatri/adolescent care.
6.1 Possesses knowledge of normal aging process.
6.2 Demonstrates ability to assess geriatric/adolescent patients.
6.3 Demonstrates ability to interpret geriatric/adolescent specific data.
6.4 Demonstrates communication skills with geriatric/adolescent patients.
6.5 Provides care appropriate to geriatric/adolescent patients.

11) Refrains from behavior or conduct deemed offensive, or undesirable, or which is subject to disciplinary action.
12) Reflects positive image to the community.
13) Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the impact of disability upon an individual’s, as well as families’ physical, emotional, social, economic and vocational status, taking into consideration age-related issues, and developmental levels over the life span (i.e., the adolescents’ need to develop their own identity, independence, and adjust to the physiological aspects of aging), and meets competency requirements for the population served (adolescents through geriatric), as applicable to the job description.
