Nurse's Aide

Position:  Nurse's Aide

 

Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting Study Coordinators in providing patient care and carrying out study procedures.



 



Qualifications:

1. Must be a high school graduate or have GED equivalency.

2. Must be trained to perform all clinical tasks and demonstrate competency, prior to performing those tasks.

3. Must have good interpersonal skills, demonstrated through interactions with patients, JBR staff, Sponsor representatives, etc.

4. Must be self-motivated and able to perform tasks independently.

5. Must perform duties under the supervision of a nurse.

6. Must reflect the professional image of the company, upholding the company vision in actions, demeanor, and appearance.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Provides personal care for patients, under the direction of Study Coordinators.  These tasks may include:

A.  Changing gauze pads and teaching patients to do so, as needed, following oral surgery.

B.  Providing water for patients and observing first sips following oral surgery.

C.  Ensuring patients have fresh water throughout their stay at JBA.

D. Assembling food and distributing to patients, as allowed by protocols and assigned by Study Coordinators.

E.  Providing miscellaneous personal care, as requested by the Study Coordinators.

2. Maintains infection control safety standards when performing job responsibilities.

3. Orients patients to rooms and teaches how to request assistance, when needed.

4. Maintains patient rooms in a clean, orderly, safe manner.

5. Disposes of garbage and replaces garbage can liners following all patient use.

6. Ensures clean linens are available and utilized at all times.

8. Assists with the screening/consenting of study subjects, as assigned.

9. Monitors vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, weight, or pulse oximetry) in compliance with protocol requirements and reports abnormal findings to the Study Coordinator.

10. Observes patients during all interactions and reports any unusual occurrences or concerns to the Study Coordinator.

11. Performs venipunctures to obtain blood samples for laboratory tests, as assigned.

12. Assists in maintaining work areas in a clean, organized fashion.

13. Assists in collecting study-specific patient information and recording information on tracking logs, as assigned.

14. Inventories and purchases food supplies, ensuring an adequate supply is on hand at all times.

15. Maintains an inventory of all supplies (study, office, janitorial, etc.) needed to conduct studies, notifying the Director of Clinical Operations as needs are identified.

16. Works closely with the Study Coordinators, assisting with a variety of patient and study tasks, as assigned.

17. Maintains confidentiality related to company, patient, and Sponsor information.

19. Performs other duties, as assigned by the Director of Clinical Operations.
