Nurse Educator, Perioperative
The Borgess Surgical Services Department includes nineteen state-of-the-art, multi-specialty operating suites. Our O.R performs over 14,000 cases per year, including specialty neuro and orthopedic cases and vascular surgery. Borgess is also one of the largest open-heart programs in the Midwest with three rooms dedicated to cardiovascular surgery. Borgess recently opened the new Ambulatory Surgery Center for same day minimally invasive surgery. The Center will include six OR rooms with a dedicated post-op. recovery area.
The Nurse Educator will be responsible for PACU, OSS, OR and GI. In this professional role you will design and deliver educational programs for clinical personnel in order to enhance quality of patient-focused care. Identifies problems or deficiencies in performance and knowledge of patient care, researches subject matter related to problems/deficiencies and develops educational activities/programs based on identified needs. This role will also be responsible for creating the educational sessions for the Surgical Technologist Program, training of new operating room staff, development of preceptors and continuing education and competency of Surgical Services staff to include PACU. The position will act as a medical center liaison with the KVCC Surgical Technologist Program Coordinator and other hospital departments.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing Degree required with professional knowledge of nursing theory, practice and administration.
Current registered nurse license in the State of Michigan or eligible to receive.
3-5 years critical care, PACU or OSS experience required. Previous educator experience preferred. Professional Certification required within 1 year of start date.
Current critical care clinical competency and/or PACU clinical competency, ambulatory surgery/invasive procedure clinical competency.
CCRN (Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse) or CPAN (Certified PeriAnesthesia Nurse) preferred.
Established competency w/ planning, implementing, evaluating & redesign of orientation programs, educational offerings, staff competencies.
Three to five acute care nursing experience.
Two years in a Clinical Preceptor/Charge RN role required.
One year of adult educaton teaching experience preferred.
Experience in program creation and coordination strongly desired.
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively when teaching and consulting in collaboration with program participants and management staff.
Analytical skills necessary for project management, appropriate teaching materials based upon evaluation of training and educational needs, and assess program participant’s progress towards appropriate outcomes.
