Night/Weekend Manager (full-time)

Overview:

The Night/Weekend Manager is responsible for managing the evening and weekend activities of The Children’s Inn at NIH (www.childrensinn.org), in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Manager on Duty (MOD) manual. The Night/Weekend Manager works closely with other managers providing resident services and is a member of the Resident Management Team.

 

Guest Relations: Promote a homelike environment of support and understanding for residents of The Inn Become familiar with all Inn rules, policies and services as they relate to the families residing at The Children’s Inn Act in proactive manner to identify special family situations and take appropriate actions to promote resolution of conflicts  Inform Director of Facilities and Resident Services when situations cannot be reasonably resolved Ensure proper enforcement of Inn rules and manage conflicts when necessary Maintain flexibility and acknowledge stress of communal living Meet reasonable needs of Inn residents

 Administration: Process referrals for first visit families and reservations for return visit families Assist families following admission procedures; make and adjust room assignments to ensure effective operation of The Inn and optimal services for families Explain and clarify policies and procedures to families Conduct orientation tours for first visit families Communicate with social workers at the Clinical Center regarding patient reservations and referrals Assist families with hotel reservations when The Inn is overbooked Update MOD notebook in a timely basis Interface with volunteers and provide welcome desk back up as necessary Assure timely communication with residents regarding changes in schedules and/or activities Communicate with Facilities Manager regarding facility issues and repairs Monitor common spaces to ensure The Inn’s safe environment Attend staff meetings Successfully implement and facilitate emergency and evacuation procedures Work collaboratively with volunteers to successfully meet the needs of families Work collaboratively with family programming to implement and market family activities Complete special projects as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Resident Services

 Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma required.  Preference will be given to a candidate with a college degree.  Ability to speak, understand and write in Spanish is preferred.

Experience:

Three years work experience in human services (family services, hospital or therapeutic residential settings) required.  Familiarity of hospital routines and the needs of people in stressful or crisis situations desired.  Please note this is not a clinical position.

Skills/Traits:

Must have strong administrative and communication skills.  Should be friendly and tactful with a compassionate personality. Must be flexible and, when necessary, demonstrate good decision-making ability in order to protect the safety and security of Inn residents.  The Night/Weekend Manager must be able to cope with and offer comfort to people in acute personal crisis.  Should have a positive attitude and work well in a team-oriented environment.  Must be open to all and comfortable with a variety of lifestyles. Must have a clean driving record and be willing to participate in The Children’s Inn driver training program in order to operate Children’s Inn vehicles.

 

Health:

Must be in good general health with no history of chronic diseases that could be hazardous to the residents of The Children’s Inn.

Schedule:

            Core hours are from 7:00 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Saturday and from 4:00 p.m. to  10:00 p.m.

            Sunday through Wednesday.  Must be willing and able to share day and weekend coverage on

            an as-needed basis.
