Mental Health Worker

College Hospital Costa Mesa has (1) full time opening for Mental Health Worker, nights, Sunday- Saturday, 12 hour shift. This position is located on a locked adult psych unit.

College Hospital Costa Mesa is a 122 bed, acute medical/surgical and acute psychiatric care facility located in Orange County.

Job Specific Duties:

·         Maintain continued awareness of patient activities, needs, and changes in these and responds appropriately and reports observations to the Registered Nurse.

·         Demonstrates technical competence in the following:

1.) Measurement and documentation of vital signs, weight, food and fluid intake, output.

2.) Bathing, grooming, dressing patients & ADLS.

·         Effectively utilizes verbal de-escalation as the preferred means of reducing patient agitation.

·         Takes direction from licensed nursing staff in emergency situations in a timely manner.

·         Seeks supervisory guidance on a regular basis and is able to incorporate feedback into clinical performance.

·         Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines or authority appropriately.

·         Effectively monitors all patients for evidence of danger to self or others and reports immediately any issues to Registered Nurse.

·         Practices impeccable close observation techniques, i.e., every 15 minutes checks.

·         Remains flexible in responding to unit needs regarding schedules and resolution of staffing conflicts.

·         Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient’s rights.

·         Keeps self informed of content of staff meetings, new policies, and other significant information.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent, preferred experience in mental health setting.  Motivated to be directly involved with patients.  Effective verbal and written communication in English.  BCLS required.  Management Assaultive Behavior (MAB) is required within 90 days of hire.
