General Summary/Overview:  Perform complex medical laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.  Provide quality service to medical providers in a customer-service oriented environment. Essential Functions: Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, and urinalysis. Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood and urine to determine presence of normal and abnormal components. Enter data from analysis of medical tests and clinical results into computer. Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results. Review and Report test results following clinic protocols drawing special alerts to physicians and/or team leaders on “red flag” results. Ensure quality control in collecting specimens, and in ensuring appropriate sampling and records. Maintain equipment and supplies as needed. Comply with all policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness, and infection control. Other duties as assigned.  Education/Experience:· Bachelor’s degree in related field.  Must be ASCP certified or HEW equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Technologist.   Knowledge:· Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, applications, tests.· Knowledge of how to use/maintain laboratory equipment appropriately.· Knowledge of safety, infection control policies and regulations. Skills/Abilities: Skill in following appropriate testing procedures. Skill in proper use, preventive maintenance and repair. Skill in appropriate quality control and confidentiality procedures. Ability to exercise independent judgment/decision-making and discretion in reporting/distributing results.  Ability to organize effectively and work quickly with high level of accuracy. Physical Demands: Varied activities including standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, lifting, stooping.  Must be able to lift/carry/push 25 pounds.  Requires eye-hand coordination. Must have the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).  Environmental/Working Conditions: Primarily laboratory setting.  Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, fumes, and hazardous materials. Occasional evening or weekend work.
