Medical Records Coding Supervisor
Definition: An individual who develops and maintains the infrastructure to support the documentation and coding of clinical information so that it accurately reflects the services provided to customers and patients. This is accomplished through supervising the coding staff, managing work flow, oversight for the transfer of data to outside agencies in compliance with regulations, and applies software and other technology to maintain current encoder tools to name a few.
Knowledge: Must possess excellent leadership and problem-solving skills. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
Skills: Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must have experience with computers and software. Capable of using Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills for a variety of support functions. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the coding position.
Experience: Five years previous experience assigning ICD-9-CM and CPT codes in an acute care setting. Previous experience in a supervisory capacity.
License: AHIMA certification as a Certified Coding Specialist or Health Information Management RHIA or RHIT.
