UMass Memorial Health Care is the largest health care delivery system in Central New England, and the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. 

We are seeking a Manager for Charge Processing and Accounts Receivable who will support out organization's mission, vision and values by incorporating "Our Committments," UMass Memorial Service Standards, into the daily work to address uniques needs and expectations of patients, families and employees.  "Our Commitments" are: Personal, Acountability, Appearance, Caring for Patients and Families, Confidentiality, Commitment to Co-Workers, Communication and Physical Environment.

The qualified candidate will plan, organize,monitor and manage coding, charge entry and accounts receivable functions to ensure maximized professional revenue through effective billing and collection processes. 

Major Responsibilities -

Develop and implement standardized coding, charge entry and billing rules and processes.

Monitor and implement changes to ICD9/CPT coding requirements and determine the impact of these changes on current billing practices along with the development of action plans to ensure compliance.

Develop and update encounter forms in a timely fashion.

Ensure that performance meets or exceeds performance standards to ensure maxized and timely reimbursement of services.

Write and maintain departmental processes and reference guides.

Perform periodic coding, charge and claim audits to ensure compliance.

Maintain relationships with all Third Party Payer, Managers, Physicians, Leaders and other staff.

Maintain proper coding and reimbursement database for reimbursement measurement.

Direct and supervise employees including performance appraisal evaluations, scheduling, orientation and training.  Make recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, etc.

Develop and recommend the budget for the areas managed. Manage activities to assure financial goals are met.

Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps to resolve technical and operational quesitons.

Provides effective direction, guidance and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork.

Participates in performanc improvement initatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.

Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as JCAHO, DPH, etc.

Ensures that departmetn complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.

Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department.

Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.

Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.


Requirements -

A bachelor’s degree.

A minimum of 2 years managerial experience in financial data processing processes.

Demonstrated leadership ability, initiative, teamwork and assertiveness.

Excellent communication and analytic skills.

Computer skills; ability to access and use multiple data systems.

Extensive knowledge in ICD-9 and CPT coding.

Preferred -

7-10 years of Healthcare experience.
