Children’s Medical Center Dallas, a 411-bed facility with 50+ subspecialty programs and 340,000 annual visits, is one of the largest pediatric healthcare providers in the nation. A Level I trauma center, Children’s provides comprehensive patient care for children from birth to 18 years, ranging from simple eye exams to specialized treatment in areas such as heart disease, hematology-oncology and cystic fibrosis. Children’s is a major pediatric kidney, liver, intestine, heart and bone marrow transplant center. Children’s serves as the primary pediatric teaching facility for The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Children’s enjoys a stellar reputation as one of the finest pediatric facilities in the United States. The Joint Commission awarded Children’s an “outstanding” ranking, and both U.S. News & World Report and Child magazine have named Children’s as one of the nation’s top pediatric providers. In 2006, Children’s was recognized by the Dallas Business Journal as a “Best Place to Work.”
The Heart Center, ranked among the Top 10 Cardiac Programs by Child magazine, provides comprehensive care exclusively for children of all ages with cardiac disease, including: prenatal consultation, non-invasive diagnostic imaging, echocardiography, MRI, therapeutic and interventional cardiac catheterization, and cardiothoracic surgery for congenital and acquired heart defects and disease, including heart transplants. The Heart Center includes: a modern 17-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, 22-bed Cardiac Step-Down Unit, Echocardiography Laboratory, Catheterization Lab, 2-room CVOR, Outpatient Clinic and ECMO program. Last year, 5,500 echocardiograms, 600 catheterizations, more than 500 total cardiac surgical procedures and 300+ open-heart procedures were performed. Children’s is one of only a few medical centers in the country with a team of seven ECMO specialists uniquely trained to both place a patient on ECMO and to provide emergency resuscitation with ECMO when necessary.
Reporting to the Director of Advanced Practice Services, the Manager of Advanced Practice Service will lead the group of 17 Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants in the Heart Center continuum of cardiac services. The Manager provides direction and supervision of the medical and professional aspects of APNs/PAs. The Manager is involved in development of policies and practices designed to ensure quality of service and compliance with laws and regulations, oversight of the orientation of new APN/PAs, and continued education of current APNs/PAs. Responsible for program-wide operations 24 hours/7 days. Consults with the medical staff and appropriate committees to ensure coordination of medical services provided by the APNs/PAs. Serves as a member of the Advanced Practice Advisory Group.
Ideal candidates for this leadership position will have pediatric cardiac advanced practice experience. Management experience is preferred. Knowledge of current APN issues, educational and regulatory requirements is needed. The Manager will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to make presentations to groups of various size and membership. The Manager will be able to facilitate group processes and achieve consensus. Will foster a cooperative work environment. Will be flexible and adaptable to working conditions that may be unpredictable and changing. Must possess program development skills in order to develop innovative clinical services. Must be able to assess educational needs of all assigned staff and facilitate the development of programs that promote continuing education. MSN/PNP is required.
