Licensed Practical Nurse, Reports to Director of Nursing Services 

Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing Services, functions as a school nurse by performing nursing responsibilities in accordance with licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, policies, procedures and expected levels of practice, in providing direct care to students.  Following training the School Nurse is required to perform behavioral interventions, which include physical interventions, for students who are posing a threat of harm to themselves, others, or property.  Psych or Mental Health is a big plus.

Essential Functions
• Fully support and adhere to Development Program.
• Exhibit the skills necessary to communicate effectively and professionally with students
  and adults.
• provide accurate and timely health information to appropriate consumers.
• ensure effective medication administration,.
• ensure appropriate health assessments.
• ensure appropriate health care planning.
• ensure the implementation of appropriate health care.
• ensure evaluation and continuity of care.

Professional Development
• Adheres to the requirement of continuing education/training per the Massachusetts Board of 
  Registration in Nursing Regulations.
• Maintains individual responsibility for obtaining unit information regarding policies and changes.
• Works as a member of the unit team to support unit functions.
• Provides continuity of care and transition planning.
• Maintains student confidentiality.
• Serves as a student/family advocate.
• Monitors physical holds to ensure appropriate interventions with the lease restrictive alternative
  to protect the students from harming themselves and others.
• Accepts accountability for protecting self, co-workers, visitors, and students by maintaining
  Universal/Standard Precautions and following basic principles of sale milieu management.
• Addresses issues of concern in a prompt, tactful, and professional manner.
• Required to respond to psychiatric or program emergencies according to established
  Procedures.

Physical Requirements
*Continuous: Standing, walking, talking and hearing for discussion with students, colleagues and supervisors, mental and cognitive alertness necessary to maintain safe milieu.
*Frequent: Driving, reaching, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, repetitive hand motion and manual dexterity for driving and performing various office tasks; near and far visual acuity for reading, recording information and driving.
*Occasional: Crawling, pushing, pulling, performing physical restraint
*Rarely: Working overhead
*Definitions:  Continuous - 66 to 100% of the time, Frequent - 31 to 65% of the time
Occasional - 10 to 30% of the time, Rarely - less than 10% of the time

The student living space can range from a small confined room to a large dwelling on different levels.  This position also requires extensive driving to sites throughout a tri-state area.  The staff member will be required to travel in every type of weather condition throughout the day or evening.
