Position Description:

The lead Software Quality Assurance Analyst [SQA] leads a team of QA analysts that perform quality planning, analysis, software quality assurance and quality control for projects and operations associated with the CHOPlink acute program. The lead SQA is engaged in all portions of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and specifically develops and implements best practices in the area of quality assurance. The lead SQA:Works collaboratively with management and staff of the CHOPlink implementation team and other IS divisions as well as with customers throughout the Hospital and its networkTranslates software end user requirements into test scriptsParticipates in work breakdown schedule and project plan developmentEducates other project team staff on testing requirement needsParticipates in all phases of the SDLC by providing input during requirements and design sessions, functional and technical walkthroughs, and writing test scripts, scenarios, or cases.Develops and administers a software quality assurance processes within CHOPlink program.Advocates and implements best practices and continuous process improvementsWorks to ensure the buy-in of staff to quality assurance best practices and processes.Leads a quality assurance team within departmentally defined objectives, consistent with standards and methodologySoftware quality planning The lead SQA develops/identifies which quality standards are relevant to the project or work and determines how to satisfy and scale them as needed. The lead SQA creates, executes and monitors quality plans and communicates with stakeholders to meet quality objectives for projects and operations. The quality plan covers all phases of the SDLC, from initiation through closeout. The lead SQA defines and includes items such as the following in the quality plan, and obtains stakeholder sign-off to the plan:Quality objectivesQuality approach Estimates and expected cyclesResourcesScheduleProject plansWork break down schedulesEnvironmentsEntry/exit criteriaDefect managementTest cases and scriptsTest matrixTest data requirementsThe lead SQA manages to the quality plan, coordinates all quality activity and monitors progress of quality control and defect management, assesses readiness against acceptance criteria, and records and communicates status to stakeholders. The lead SQA writes test summary reports at the conclusion of testing cycles.The SQA is responsible to:Identify the human and other resource requirements needed to meet the project quality objectivesObtain the necessary resources or resolve any resource gapsAssign resources with clear and accurate directionsEscalate unresolved issues as neededReport status and prepare and deliver final test report Software quality assuranceThe lead SQA applies the planned quality activities to ensure that the project or work employs all processes needed to meet requirements. The lead SQA:Analyzes documentation, e.g., requirements, use cases, specificationsCreates test cases and develops detailed test scripts from requirements and functional specification documentsParticipates in the definition of requirements when necessaryCreates, maintains and verifies test cases/scripts/scenarios and the regression test suite in accordance with existing QA standards to support data migrations between development, test, training and production environments.Performs defect managementCollaborates with developers and others to identify root causes of defects, recommend and implement corrective actionReports to management on quality issues and the effectiveness of existing quality processes, and recommends and implements solutions and improvements Software quality controlThe lead SQA performs activities to monitor specific project or work results to determine whether they comply with relevant quality standards and identifies ways to eliminate causes of unsatisfactory performance. The lead SQA:Performs quality activities associated with each stage in the SDLC according to established best practices and standardsCaptures, records and reports test results using manual and/or electronic methodsAnalyzes test results against established standards and/or user requirements/technical specification documentsSubmits defects into the defect management system Software quality assurance best practicesThe lead SQA demonstrates knowledge of and experience with industry best practices, applies them effectively to the needs of the project, assists with establishing metrics and suggests continuous process improvements. The lead SQA:Participates in the development, refinement and documentation of standards, best practices and processesAdvocates their useTeaches them to team membersUses good judgment in applying them to the needs of the project or workUses them effectivelyIdentifies opportunities to leverage automated tools for greater effectiveness of data migration between development, test, training and production environments.Keeps abreast of industry knowledge and trends

Qualifications:

BS or BA in Computer Science; 5-10 years experience in software quality assuranceExperience in the health care industry a plus.Formal training and certification in quality assurance highly desirableDemonstrated industry experience in writing and executing software quality plans and test scriptsDemonstrated knowledge with project managementKnowledge of SDLC and experience in all phases of the SDLCSolid understanding of software quality assurance best practicesProven experience testing software from end-user and back-office perspectives Self motivated individual capable of producing high-quality work with a minimum of supervisionStrong customer service orientation; maintains a high level of serviceSolid team player able to work collaboratively with a team of EPIC application consultants, analyst, or Sr. Analysts and other IS staff with diverse technical backgrounds and with the business communityAbility to ensure schedules and milestones are metAbility to facilitate meetings for developing, analyzing and modifying processes, tools and templatesAbility to grasp and communicate business needs to both technical and business/clinical staffAbility to analyze and determine root causes for defects and recommend corrective actionStrong work ethic, excellent skills in communication, relationship building, problem solving, time management, multi-tasking, influence, and attention to detailMust accommodate fast-paced, aggressive schedules Flexible, adaptable to changes in priorities
