Laboratory Technician - Dedham

American Red Cross Blood Services is a non-profit organization that offers employment growth and development, team spirit, a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. We are seeking an individual who has an interest in working in one of the largest Component Laboratories in the country. We process almost all American Red Cross blood collected from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

General Duties:

- ABO Rh labeling of all transfusable products

- Dockable Leukoreduction – Filtration

- Quarantine: Will remove products that are unsuitable for transfusion from possible use. Based on test results, donor assertions and properties, units are excluded from use.

- Freezing, Washing and Deglycerolizing: Freezing and processing of RBC’s based on physician’s orders.

- Irradiation: Irradiating products for transfusion based on physician orders.

- Pheresis: Processing of apheresis products based on set criteria and platelet counts. Involves sampling for Bacterial Detection testing as well as calculations of yields and processing of the respective units.

- Will also assist Laboratory Assistants with regard to the functions of  Components, Double Red Cells, Create Pheresis, Sample Management and Component Disposal.

- Will work with the American Red Cross National Biomedical Computer System and Microsoft Windows to track and identify products

Qualifications:

Minimum requirements: 30 college credit hours in a Math or Science. Prior experience with pertinent laboratory procedures is desired; experience in a college laboratory is acceptable.

Requires a strong attention to detail.
