Laboratory Technical Supervisor - Microbiology

 This position is responsible for day-to-day supervision or oversight of the department operation and personnel. Responsible to implement a comprehensive quality program which complies with the quality plan and the IHC Institute for Healthcare Delivery Research. Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with all standard operating procedures, and regulations of certifying, licensing and accrediting agencies.

 

This position title is defined under the Federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 for laboratories performing high complexity tests. This position reports directly to the PCMC PHD Microbiologist (Microbiology Laboratory Director). Interpersonal skills are essential for this position, as they interact with IHC laboratory employees and pathologists. The supervisor has access to sensitive, confidential information and must be able to maintain these confidences. The supervisor is a member of the PCMC leadership team. This position will develop expertise in the theory and practice of Good Laboratory Practices and will monitor implementation and operation of all policies and standard operating procedures required by accreditation and regulatory agencies. This will include standardization and monitoring of regulatory compliance, quality assurance requirements, quality control documentation, employee competency and technical procedures.

1. Bachelors degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/ medical technology science with at least three years experience with high complexity testing or otherwise meet CLIA requirements for general supervisor.

2. Certification from MT(ASCP), NCA, or equivalent.

3. Strong organizational skills. Ability to think in terms of systems and processes.

4. Ability to formulate and articulate a vision for the department.

5. Must have good interpersonal relationship, communication, and management skills.

6. Ability to be flexible and create team cooperation.

7. Word processing and spreadsheet experience preferred.

8. Experience with good manufacturing practices, good laboratory practices, or ISO 9000 standards preferred.

9. Supervisory experience preferred.
