Performs age appropriate phlebotomy procedures. May perform moderately complex laboratory analyses on neonatal, pediatric, adult and/or geriatric patients. Assumes responsibility for compliance with all standards, quality control quality assurance activities, inventory control, cost containment practices, policies, and procedures as required by regulatory/accrediting agencies, hospital and/or laboratory administration to ensure the overall accuracy reliability, and quality of information relayed to the customer. Performs various tasks to prepare specimens for testing including, but not limited to: affirming proper specimen type procured; labeling; centrifugation and separating of specimens; using appropriate preservation methods; packaging specimens for transport to reference lab; and delivery of specimens to appropriate work area. Performs applicable LIS procedures including, but not limited to: Registration; Order/Entry; Labeling; Test Processing and Verification; and results reporting. Serves as a receptionist. Obtains demographic and insurance information from customers Obtains any additional information needed by Patient Accounts or by third party payers. Performs Microbiological tasks including, but not limited to: accessioning specimens; planting of all culture types; preparing slides for staining; and incubating plates/slants at proper temperature. Requires multi-campus rotation. As assigned, responsible for working weekends, holidays, and for covering other than primary shift. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School Graduate or equivalent one year phlebotomy experience. CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Successful completion of approved phlebotomy program.
