LITIGATION ASSISTANT Truman Medical Center has an immediate opening for a Litigation Assistant in their Litigation Counsel Department.Works independently in a litigation setting with responsibility for: preparing correspondence, pleadings, discovery, motions and other legal documents for review by attorney; transcribes dictated correspondence, pleadings and various legal documents; schedules court appearances, depositions, interviews and other meetings for attorneys with individuals or groups involved in litigation. Works independently in performing duties for a self insured trust that provides general and professional liability coverage, including entry and development of loss data, preparing and filing reports with state and federal regulators, and develop information for the trust actuaries. Provides department support as needed.Job Duties and Responsibilities:Independently prepares routine motions to the court, routine discovery to opposing parties, and routine correspondence, in addition to transcribing legal documents of all types for both litigation attorneys. Independently arranges and oversees the filing of various documents with the court. Deals directly with physicians and other hospital personnel as well as judicial clerks, attorneys, expert witnesses, court reporters, HHHSC employees and others in scheduling meetings, interviews, depositions, court appearances; makes out of town deposition and travel arrangements for both attorneys. Opens and screens all incoming mail to both litigation attorneys, including correspondence, discovery, pleadings, and court orders. Develop and maintain a docketing system for the litigation department calendar and track all relevant dates as mandated by court order and to follow all relevant discovery dates. Independently follows up with all discovery responses to opposing parties, including keeping a calendar of due dates for such discovery and requesting in writing (with appropriate authorizations) the necessary medical, employment and tax records and medical bills on various plaintiffs. This often includes multiple follow-ups with internally and externally to ensure attorneys have the completed records and bills for each plaintiff.Minimum Requirements:1.) Associates degree or equivalent in education and experience.2.) Two years of Paralegal experience.3.) Experience in a Legal Secretary position.4.) Excellent writing, computer and keyboard skills.Preferred Qualifications:1.) Bachelors Degree.2.)
