LAB ASSISTANT

AmeriPath's extensive diagnostics infrastructure includes over 400 pathologists and doctorate-level scientists providing services in over 40 independent pathology laboratories and in more than 200 hospitals across the US. Currently, the Jackson, Mississippi facility has an opening for a Per Diem Lab Assistant.  Shift will be variable.The Cytology Lab Assistant associate is responsible for accessioning and processeing cytology specimens assuring that specimens are accurately identified and properly prepared according to established protocols.  KEY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:-  Accurately verify and accession cytology specimens with minimum error rate.-  Process specimens according to established department / organizational policiesand procedures optimizing quality of preparation.-  Perform routine equipment and system maintenance as required, documenting action taken.-  Detect discrepancies and follow quality assurance procedures to take corrective action.-  Demonstrate ability to recognize errors and act appropriately to resolve the error or bring to the attention of the coordinator or supervisor for resolution.-  Organize work in order to perform assigned duties in a timely manner during assigned regular shift.-  Demonstrate initiative and require minimum supervision.-  Comply and follow all state, federal, and professional regulations as well as rules            regarding the disposal of biohazards and chemical waste. Education: High School diploma or GED.  Vocational or other training in laboratory or medical procedures preferred.Experience:  One or more years in laboratory setting, preferably cytology AmeriPath offers a competitive benefit package, including 401k, health and dental insurance and tuition reimbursement.
