L'Arche Assistant

L’Arche Tahoma Hope Community, a member of the International Federation of L’Arche, is seeking full time live-in assistants.  Assistants live and work in intentional community with core members (adults with developmental disabilities), building relationships and announcing the gifts of people with disabilities to the greater community.   

 

Participating in shared leadership, assistants work to foster a sense of team and home based on the spirituality of L’Arche and meeting requirements necessary under the Washington State Adult Family Homes license.   “Doing with� core members as much as possible (as opposed to “doing for�) and celebrating the gifts of each person are at the heart of L’Arche.   Assistants provide emotional support, personal care assistance and seek to empower core members.  Compassion, forgiveness, play, work, prayer and celebration are daily practices of life in a L’Arche community.

 Although many assistants come to L’Arche for an initial year of service, many choose to stay longer than a year, in order to deepen their relationships, take on greater responsibility and grow as a person.  Some assistants find their vocation, living in L’Arche on a long-term, open-ended basis.
