 As a Benefitfocus Software Engineer in our development group, you would be working with a dynamic team of business and engineering professionals, in an environment where your input and efforts are valued and rewarded. You can expect to work with business stakeholders to determine application requirements and write detailed design documents for the new application features. Within your first few weeks in the position, you will be expected to complete the development of at least one bug fix or small feature while working with a mentor. Hands-on training and development for the position include the active participation and contribution to the technical design of feature development, along with involvement in a code review.

 As the position progresses, you will aid in the development of new features and application enhancements using Java as a primary programming language by frequently checking working code into a repository. You will collaborate with other engineers on the team and work with members of Product Management and Quality Assurance teams to ensure the delivery of high quality application features that will provide the maximum benefit to our clients.

 As a Software Engineer, you will participate in release and development iteration planning sessions by creating technical designs, estimating features, providing feedback on previous releases and iterations, and recommending changes and ways to improve in future iterations and releases.

Experience and Skills:


  A minimum of 2-7 years Java or .NET  experience Application development against a relational database (preferably Oracle) Object- oriented design and development Fundamental understanding of distributed architectures A Bachelors Degree required, Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred or equivalent experience
