Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument Coordinator

Sheltering Arms, a premier provider of physical rehabilitation services in Richmond, Virginia, is currently seeking an Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI) Coordinator.  This position is responsible for the overall data quality, accuracy and timely submission of each IRF-PAI completed for each inpatient discharge.  This position is responsible for leading the reviews of inpatient medical records to identify trends and results relative to documentation and scoring quality and completeness, and facilitates the communication of such through regular reporting, ad hoc feedback and educational inservices of value to the inpatient clinical and support teams.  The IRF-PAI Coordinator is an asset to the organization as a subject matter expert on the IRF-PAI and IRF-Prospective Payment System (IRFPPS) regulations and guidelines.

 

Responsibilities:Work closely with the IRFPPS Specialist to ensure the accurate and timely submission of each IRF-PAI within the CMS and facility-mandated timeframesSpearhead ongoing chart audits to:Confirm accurate Functional Independent Measure (FIM) scoring during the inpatient stay;Identify trends and patterns in FIM scoring that require educational follow up with clinical staff;Communicate documentation needs to clinical staff;Reassess coding accuracy as it relates to reimbursement-group assignment; andValidate costs associated with the inpatient stay (as necessary)Develop educational strategies and tactics to reinforce a collaborative approach for IRF-PAI completion by the Inpatient Rehabilitation Nursing, Therapy Physician Services and Case Management Departments as it relates to assessment timeframes; understanding and application of FIM scores; and robust medical-record documentation used to support patient FIM scores, IRF-PAI population and coding accuracyParticipate in inpatient team meetings to obtain information pertinent to the patients’ IRF-PAI and provides a communication outlet for questions relative to the patients’ IRF-PAI Participate in IRF committees and team meetings to communicate pertinent, IRFPPS-related legislative updates; shares results and trends from medical record/IRF-PAI audits; and reviews any action plans developed and implemented as a resultDemonstrate leadership, flexibility and availability to share expertise and knowledge on specific organizational projects (e.g. RAC audits, OIP Initiatives, CERT reviews, etc.)

Requirements:2+ years nursing experience in Inpatient Rehabilitation is necessary; Registered Nurse (RN) preferredA CPC certification is preferredDemonstrated knowledge of the IRF-PAI assessment process and IRFPPS/CMS guidelines relative to the IRF-PAI and inpatient rehabilitationExperience with electronic health records or clinical documentation systems preferredExperience working with multiple computer applications (including Windows, the Microsoft Office Suite, the Internet) and proprietary applications (e.g. registration, financial, ancillary), knowledge of eRehabdata strongly preferredWork independently and manage time appropriately to job function, task or deadlinePlan, organize and integrate complex and interdepartmental processes of value to the HIM Department and the IRF as a wholeCommunicate effectively and diplomatically within interdisciplinary support and clinical teamsMaintain strong organizational skills and attention to detailFunction in a fast paced, service-oriented environment
