Inpatient Coding Auditor
HealthCare Resolution Services, Inc. is seeking an Inpatient Coding Auditor to work on-site at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, TX.
Job Description:
Performs routine auditing of coded inpatient medical records throughout the MTF to ensure accuracy and standards are being followed. The employee shall be responsible for auditing a statistically significant amount of records to meet and maintain Data Quality improvement iniatives. The Coding Auditor shall provide coding expertise to the MTF.
Duties:
- Complete quantitative/qualitative analysis of records to ensure all components of record are present and comply with JCAHO requirements by ensuring all documentation is present in appropriate format and sequence.
- Audit and review the coded record to ensure standards for accuracy are met and/or exceeded with sufficient documentation to support diagnosis and treatment administered.
- Clarify inconsistent, ambiguous, non-specific information by consulting the responsible medical practitioner. Correct inappropriate coding in the record and CHCS in accordance with ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines and discuss error with physician.
- Present reports of audits to the MTF Data Quality Manager (DQM) on a regular basis, and as requested by the DQM, HQ AETC, HCRS, trainers or others.
- Provide technical advice to professional staff relative to the best method of recording diagnosis and operations as well as checking the accuracy and completeness of third-party billing in order to ensure maximum reimbursement potential.

Requirements
Must be certified by AAPC or AHIMA as a RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, CPC-H and have at least 5 years experience
