Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH) is an independent, not for profit, health care system, comprised of 6 hospitals, located in Memphis, TN. MLH is one of the largest not for profit health systems in the country, with 1,900 beds and 10,000 associates within the system and discharging more then 63,000 patients annually. Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare has been named among the Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks in the country, according to Verispan, the nation’s premier rating system. Hospitals making the Top 100 list have to meet critical success factors and have the ability to operate as a unified organization in eight categories.
Germantown Hospital is a 209-bed community based hospital serving Germantown and the surrounding area. Areas of expertise include acute inpatient care; treatment of extensive surgical services; maternity services; children’s services, featuring a Le Bonheur unit; Emergency Department; and the new Cardiac Services Department. Recently, Germantown Hospital was approved for a $124 million, 100-bed expansion that will result in improvements to address the hospital’s high patient volume and tremendous inpatient growth due to aging “Baby Boomers.” This expansion phase is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2010.
Reporting to the Hospital Administrator, the Director is responsible for: planning, implementing and directing operations and programs in the Germantown Pharmacy, and coordinating of Pharmacy activities and operations with other MLH facilities. Germantown Pharmacy includes 21 Pharmacists and 15 Pharmacy Technicians; 36 FTEs. 2 Managers report to the Director.
The Director is accountable for managing and administering hospital policies and procedures, including staffing activities and performance management. Prepares the annual expense budget and capital requests for Germantown Pharmacy. Monitors budget and other financial indicators during the year and develops and implements plans to control costs and improve department operations. Participates in the coordination of formulary, clinical and operating policies and procedures for Germantown Pharmacy with other MLH Pharmacies, and serves on the MLH Pharmacy Planning and Operations Committee. Develops and maintains quality improvement programs for Germantown Pharmacy and ensures that productivity and QA data is compiled and reports prepared for MLH management and regulatory bodies. Participates in pharmacy education activities at Germantown Hospital, proposes enhancements for academic programs and assumes an active role in pharmacy-related portion of education programs for medical staff and other medical personnel.
Ideal candidates for this position will have at least 5 years of experience as a Director in a hospital pharmacy. The Director will have strong knowledge of pharmacy principles, administration and procedures and ability to understand and prepare complex written materials such as a business plan. The Director will be a dynamic leader, with a high level of energy and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate well at all levels in the organization are necessary, along with ability to facilitate a team approach. It is necessary to embrace a servant leadership style to be successful, encouraging decisions to be made at the lowest level possible and having ability to function as an administrator at both the hospital and system levels. PharmD degree is required; a Master’s degree in Hospital Pharmacy, Health Care Administration or Business Administration would be helpful. Must be currently licensed or eligible as a Pharmacist in the state of Tennessee. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including relocation assistance.
