Histology Manager

The Histology Manager responsibilities include: Thorough understanding of the principles of histology and immunohistochemistry. Fulfills the job requirements of a histotechnician Oversees the laboratory workflow, maintains staffing levels to accommodate the workload and monitors employee performance. Manages budgets of the histology department Ensures that Quality and Safety Standards are met or exceeded. Maintains or delegates preparation and updates of the Histology Laboratory Procedure Manuals for daily laboratory guidance and CAP inspection. Interviews and recommends the hiring of new personnel. Coordinates the orientation and training of new personnel. Performs employee performance appraisals. Communicates with pathologists, directors and other departmental managers on issues affecting specimen processing and turn-around-time. Exhibit proficiency with all instrumentation in both the histology and immunohistochemistry labs. Ensures that appropriate inventory of supplies is maintained, or delegates the responsibilities to a staff member to ensure supplies are ordered in timely and efficient manner. Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly with the staff and all other health care professionals. Delegates tasks to staff members in accordance with their personal abilities and limitations. Provides recognition for good work performance. Monitors quality control results, taking corrective action as needed in a timely manner to ensure valid test results. Education and Knowledge Minimum of two years of college is required. A bachelor's degree in science, completion of a Histology training program and certification as a HT or HTL is preferred.Experience At least 10 years of experience in a Histology laboratory is required. Supervisory/Management experience is preferred. The individual is expected to display maturity, responsibility, and leadership capabilities.
