Health and Safety Manager

The primary purpose of this position is to enable all team members (through knowledge, education and visual systems) to work in a hazard-free environment without accident.

This position is accountable for the design, teaching, implementation and coordination of plant wide health & safety systems. Organizational focus for Napanee include: LOTO; WHMIS, Behavioural Safety; Emergency

Response; Rehabilitation; WSIB; Transition/Modified Work; Confined

Space; and communication systems.

The Health & Safety Manager is the expert of safety requirements and regulations to meet the demands of team members, local legislation and corporate HQ requirements.

The Health & Safety Manager leads, teaches and motivates leaders in the Napanee plant toward a zero accident environment.



General requirements :

* Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Human Sciences (Psychology; Human Kinetics; Biomechanics; Organizational Behaviour; Chemistry; etc.)

* BS in Industrial Safety or related field.

* 3-5 years experience in industrial safety management or manufacturing management

* Prior experience in the field of Health & Safety; or Ergonomics; or Chemistry; or Industrial Hygiene

* Prior experience working with WSIB; OH&SA or other applicable Ontario legislation.

Technical requirements :

* Develop, communicate annual plans that implement proactive programs to reinforce safety awareness and continuous improvement in both health and safety.

* Develop, communicate and implement systems for eliminating at-risk situations; at-risk behaviours; investigation of incidents; team management of safety goals; and consequences for both positive (recognition) and non-compliance (discipline) behaviours.

* Develop & train internal safety network resources including: Health Centre; ERT members (& officers); Jt Health & Safety Committee; Leadership; and team Safety Reps.

* Complete all accident investigations and OSHA/Ontario Ministry of Labour documentation within the prescribed time allowed by government and corporate administrators. Implement communication strategy for accident investigations and follow-up.

* Administer the health & hygiene program and provide direction for the plant health/hygiene consultants. Responsibilities include: Air quality checks; maintaining MSDS's; and Ergonomic issues/concerns.
