We are growing again! 



Omniflight is opening a new base in Houston, Texas. 



We are seeking Flight Paramedics with a Texas Paramedic license.

The patient population will be 100% inter-facility, 70% High Risk OB, 30% Cardiac.  The hospital is a women's hospital with high acuity adult cardiac/pulmonary line.







POSITION SUMMARY:

Administers emergent and critical medical care to a patient population which ranges from neonates to geriatrics.  Works cooperatively and interdependently with pre-hospital and hospital personnel to optimize the care of patients requiring critical care stabilization and transportation.  Markets for Omniflight and serves as a representative of the program when involved in public relations and/or marketing activity.  Maintains a positive attitude at all times, ensuring excellent customer service.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Assess patient needs in pre-hospital and hospital settings utilizing accepted paramedic standards. Sets priorities of care rapidly and accurately under all conditions and in varied environments. Functions in the field in collaboration with the flight nurse utilizing assessment skills and Omniflight written protocols when physician contact is not possible, and accepts responsibility for such actions.

 

·  Responsible for patient care during transport, utilizes assessment skills in the identification of the patient’s physical, psychological and spiritual needs.  Evaluate the patient’s vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, respiratory and neurological status as condition warrants. 

 

·  Plan and implement interventions based on knowledge of physical and behavioral sciences. 

 

·  Maintains excellent documentation skills; Adhere to Omniflight requirements for clinical documentation, as well as documentation of demographic information for billing and collection purposes. 

 

·  Provide all aspects of Critical Care monitoring and treatment as permitted by the Medical Director, Omniflight Director of Clinical Services and State Regulatory Agencies, up to and including the following skills:

 

o 12 lead EKG interpretation and treatment modalities

o Inter-cranial pressure monitoring – (ICP)

o Chest tube placement and management in applicable markets

o Rapid sequence intubation - (RSI)

o Surgical cricothyrocotomy

o Administration of whole blood, packed red blood cells – (RBCs), fresh frozen platelets – (FFP) and other blood components.

 

·  Administration and monitoring of drug therapies based on patient condition as outlined in current medical direction guidelines.

o Administer controlled substances as indicated by patient condition, documents all narcotic use on Omniflight narcotics logs and documents all narcotics wastes in the narcotics log and on patient record with a RN/CEP witness. Document patient response to all medications after administration.

 

·  Required to attend 80 hours of initial training with successful completion of prescribed course outline and maintain certification by attending Paramedic courses - (EMT-P). Participate in required in-services / additional training as required by local medical director leadership and Omniflight Director of Clinical Services. Completes all clinical experiences as required by local medical director and Omniflight Director of Clinical Services.

 

·  Maintain competency and is proficient in the use of all supplies / equipment used for patient care.  Competency must be maintained in use of the following:

 

o Aircraft and handheld communication equipment

o 12 lead EKG monitors and the  interpretation of cardiac rhythms displayed

o Cardiac Defibrillation equipment

o Arterial Pressure monitoring equipment and pressure monitoring lines

o End Tidal CO2 monitoring devices

o Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA)

o Combitube insertion

o Endo-tracheal intubation equipment

o Surgical airway devices

o EZ I-O insertion equipment

o Swan-Ganz Catheter Monitoring

o Current competency maintained in the administration of all blood products, fluid warming devices and other blood administration adjuncts

o This includes equipment utilized on helicopters, fixed wing aircraft, and ground ambulances.

o Other medical device / supplies as directed by Director of Clinical Services

 

·  Visually assures all medical equipment is accounted for at beginning of shift. Completes equipment check-off reports as required by Omniflight and State Regulations.

 

·  Adheres to Omniflight communication policies and procedures relating to patient care, response times, schedule availability and helicopter operations. 

 

·  Provides for patient and team safety at all times.  Support and promote safe operation of the aircraft and participates appropriately in crew resource management during every phase of the transport in compliance with Omniflight policies and all federal and state laws.  Participate in local base safety meeting monthly in person or by teleconference attendance.  Participates at least quarterly in regional safety committee meetings in person or by teleconference attendance. Actively promotes company safety standards.

 

·  Actively reports operational changes, problems and situations to the oncoming crew and leadership team. Assure completion of daily comprehensive shift check-off of equipment.

 

·  Ensure medical equipment, oxygen equipment and medical supplies are maintained in working order.  Clean all medical equipment and restocks all depleted supplies in aircraft and storage areas after each mission.

 

·  Works with Omniflight Leadership Team in the assessment, evaluation and recommendation of equipment and supplies to be utilized by the system.

 

·  Participate in public/community relation activities, including education assignments, which may include speaking to groups.

 

o Is eligible for mileage reimbursement for activities where personal vehicle is utilized.

 

·  Participates in process improvement and educational programs as assigned by leadership team, participates in chart reviews and inservice presentations.  

o Attends meetings as required by local Leadership Team, Medical Director and Clinical Director.

 

·  Maintains excellent customer service skills. Adheres to Omniflight customer service policy, and is willing to accept responsibility and subsequent consequences for deviations. 

 

SUPERVISES.

 

There are no direct management supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certificate of Completion from an accredited EMT/Paramedic program is required. Degree in Para-medicine/EMS technology is preferred.

 

Experience: At least 3 years pre-hospital experience in a 911 lead medic role is required. Previous flight paramedic experience is preferred.

 

Certification and Licensure:

 

Required - State EMT-P certification. NREMT-P preferred; required in Arizona. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP). One of the following trauma courses is: International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Audit Transport Nurses Advanced Trauma Course (TNATC) Transport Nurse Critical Care (TNCC).

o Trauma courses not listed above may be approved at the discretion of the local Medical Director and Omniflight Director of Clinical Services.

 

Preferred - Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C). Critical Care Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (CCEMT-P). Current Clinical Instructor Status preferred in all specialty areas .

 

Skills: The ability to operate critical care equipment (i.e. monitors, pumps, ventilators). Must possess standard critical care skills commensurate with the transport profession. Must become proficient in the operation of radio systems/equipment. Must possess basic to intermediate computer skills. Must have the ability to make major and critical decisions in the absence of medical and/or   supervisory direction. Must be able to adapt to varying situations all the while maintaining appropriate standards or care and customer service. Must be able to work well in a team environment. Demonstrate accountability, integrity and responsibility.
