Job Summary:  Responsible for directing the operations of the Clinical Laboratory and Anatomic Pathology.

 

Job Responsibilities:  (**Essential job function)

 

**1. Plan and integrate programs and services to support strategic plans, goals and priorities:

**3. Provide leadership for effective service:

·  Select qualified and competent employees; provide orientation, continuing education and development.

·  Communicate strategic plans, goals and priorities and facilitate development of team and individual goals in alignment with these goals.

·  Establish performance expectations and provide coaching to achieve results.

·  Recognize effective performance and address performance needs improvement in an honest and timely manner.

·  Empower staff to make decisions by providing information and tools.

·  Serve as an effective role model of Shared Values and encourage staff to develop and demonstrate these values.

 

**4. Continually assess and improve care and services provided to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of customers.  Foster continuous quality improvement by leading teams in use of quality management tools and processes.

·  Identify and advocate for improvements to services and operations to enhance patient and physician satisfaction.

·  Establish indicators for monitoring productivity and quality assurance activities.

·  Ensure resolution of technical, quality and patient care service issues.

 

**5. Manage organizational resources with fiscal responsibility and promote their effective allocation and utilization.

·  Establish budgets in relationship to strategic plans, goals and priorities.

·  Ensure department manager and supervisors manage to budgets.

·  Plan and monitor staffing patterns and levels according to service needs.

·  Consolidate services and functions, as appropriate, to reduce costs and streamline operations and services.

·  Evaluate, select and negotiate purchased services, capital equipment and supplies.

·  Maintain state-of-the-art technology and equipment to support patient care services.

·  Assist in establishing fee schedules and code procedures for reimbursement.

 

*6. Represent Hospital to PACLAB’s Executive Management Group and the Outreach Committee.

 

7. Follow the policies, procedures, and practices outlined in the Code of Conduct and Organizational Ethics policy.  Report any business practice/compliance concerns according to policy.

 

8. Maintain current knowledge of regulatory issues and practices related to area of expertise and lead change when needed to ensure compliance.

 

9. Other duties as assigned.

 





Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education:  Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology required.  Master’s Degree preferred.

 

Professional Licensure/Certification/Registration:  Current ASCP, HEW or NCA licensure required.

 

Experience:  Five years minimum required in management/leadership.

 

Special Training/Skills:  Excellent people and interpersonal skills.    Demonstrated ability to solve technical, operational, financial and complex problems.  Strong communication (verbal/written) and organizational skills.  Demonstrated history of increasing leadership responsibility and reliability.  Experience with CQI methods and team processes.  Ability to multi-task and work with diverse individuals.

 

Working Conditions:  Fast paced, high stress environment with multiple demands.  Well-lit, climate-controlled office environment.  Potential exposure to body fluids, biohazard specimens and hazardous chemicals
