The Emergency Department has continued to grow over the last few years with an average of 60,000+ patients/year coming through the doors. Our ER completed an aggressive expansion project in May 2005 to accommodate future increases. This unit consists of 39 beds. The general patient population is a combination of pediatrics, general medical, and cardiac. South Austin Hospital has a very busy cardiac program with the ER treating large numbers of Acute MI patients in conjunction with the hospital’s 2 cardiac cath labs. Cardiac catheterization labs and open heart surgery suites are located adjacent to the ED for immediate intervention and treatment of cardiac emergencies. The ED is equipped with state of the art monitoring as well as bedside cardiac bio-marker testing. This hospital was the first Chest pain certified ED in central Texas. CT scan and ultrasound capabilities right in the department. Department Description: The Emergency Department is a fast-paced energetic unit to work in. They were recently voted “Best Emergency Department in Austin and Travis Countyâ€� by Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services. The Director is responsible for the supervision of the staff and accountable for the delivery of care.The Director of the Emergency department supports staff involvement with any new process or change in the department. Position Description : The Position is under the direct supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer. The ideal candidate will have experience with quality patient outcomes and successful patient satisfaction scores. Experience Required: Experience as Director of Emergency Services, the development and maintenance of budget, supervision of staff to include licensed staff, ancillary and support staff. Education/Experience : Required: BSN from an NLN school of professional nursing. Preferred: Masters Degree in Nursing. Licenses/Certifications : Required: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas. Current certification from the American Heart Association as a BLS provider. Preferred: Certification in area of specialty.
