Description



Responsible for project managing one large project or several medium to small projects.  This includes all aspects of the project planning, monitoring and controlling processes. The Director, Special Projects is responsible for completion of projects on time, on budget, meeting requirements, and providing high quality. To assist with these responsibilities the Director, Special Projects might oversee Project Managers or other associated project staff.  The Director, Special Projects will perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, coordinating resources and stakeholders; setting deadlines; assigning responsibilities; and monitoring, summarizing and communicating the progress of projects through out the project(s) lifecycle.

 

Responsibilities:

·        Engaging and managing the relationships with project stakeholders involved during the complete lifecycle of the project(s).

·        Review existing project management practices and make recommendations for improvements.

·        Development and maintenance of detailed project plans, activities and monitoring of progress against all activities through out the project lifecycle.

·        Sets project quality and performance standards.

·        Maintaining project issue logs and ensuring all issues are appropriately prioritized and resolved.

·        Maintaining project risk and assisting with identification of previously unforeseen project risks and planning and monitoring of appropriate mitigation strategies.

·        Perform resource planning to ensure appropriate team size and capabilities are maintained.

·        Manages third-party partner and/or vendor relationships, as necessary.

·        Chairing regular project meetings to review progress and priorities.

·        Preparation of project progress and status reports as necessary.

·        Responsible for ongoing sponsor satisfaction.

·        Ensure the use of best practices and applies lessons learned from previous projects.

·        Ensures a positive, collaborative work environment for the project team.

·        All other duties as assigned.Required Skills

Must be familiar with project management techniques and have an understanding of project management tools and approaches to manage small to large projects.Fluent in creating and managing project plans, as well as providing and meeting time estimates for assigned tasks.Skilled in time management to facilitate involvement in multiple small to medium projects.Must have strong leadership, team management and relationship building skills.Solid problem solving skills and ability to focus both strategically and tactically to achieve business goals.Self-directed and the ability to work independently and manage communications.Excellent business and communication skills (written and verbal).Strong analytical ability.Occasional travel will be required (15-35%).Required Experience

MBA Degree in Health, Business, Finance, Information Technology, or Engineering required.  6+ years of project management/portfolio management experience required. PMP certification strongly preferred. Development or participation with a Project Management Office (PMO) preferred.For more information, visit www.healthspring.com
