Dermatology Back Office Medical Assistant

Experienced dermatology back office medical assistant with enthusiastic and positive attitude for dynamic, fast paced clinic. Minimum 2 years in dermatology office, knowledge of EMR an asset, bilingual in Spanish preferred. Full time Mon-Fri 8-5. Paid parking and generous benefits. Wonderful staff and physicians.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The primary concern of the back office MA is exceptional patient care.
The job duties listed below are representative and characteristic of the duties required and the level of the work performed in the job title. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Patients Treat patients with the utmost kindness and respect. Listen to and acknowledge their concerns, feelings, questions and fears. Room patients once marked “up and ready to room.” Assist physician with staying on schedule. Obtain history, chief complaint, vital signs and other pertinent data. Record data in EMR. Cooperate with front office to ensure smooth flow of patient appointments. Notify front office when physician is running behind. Assist physician in the surgery, routine examination and treatment of patients. Act as a chaperone while physician is examining patient. Responsible for in room transcription into EMR from physician dictation. Scan and attach patient documents, including prescriptions, forms, and consentsto EMR. Give injections and apply PPDs as directed by physician. Perform blood draws and collect specimens. Prepare samples for processing and shipping to appropriate lab. Ensure that patient understands their diagnosis, treatment, medications and follow up schedule. Provide patient with RX, samples, coupons, instruction and information sheets as needed. Complete check out form and escort patient to check out desk.
Preparation Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition. Wash, sterilize, and package a variety of medical supplies, instruments and equipment daily. Set up, clean and disinfect exam rooms to include changing paper on tables between patients; set instruments and equipment up for specific procedures. Prepare instrument daily stocking and inventorying patient rooms. Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventorying of samples and requesting samples from suppliers. Keep samples neat and organized. Responsible for maintaining inventory of patient information brochures and discount coupons and keep them organized.
Follow-Up Scan and flag labs for physician review in EMR. When instructed call patients backs with lab results. When given a verbal/written order and instructed by physician, call in prescriptions. Check faxes daily and distribute or address as needed. Check phone messages several times each day and respond as necessary. Check telephone encounters, incoming and outgoing, on a daily basis and address as needed. This includes reminding physicians if their response is needed. Provide information, follow up, tracking and regular contact with patients on Accutane, Enbrel and other special medications or treatments. Track all skin cancer patients to be sure proper treatment and follow up is completed as directed by physician. Prepare and send certified letters to patients who do not comply. Refer potential cosmetic patients to esthetician or front office staff for product purchase. Review and update biopsy and skin cancer logs weekly.
