DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR 1 - SQL SERVER   

 

 

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

 

Responsible for the design, maintenance, monitoring, tuning, backup and security of SQL databases at Healthcare Partners (HCP).  Installs, develops and manages business-critical databases.  Assists Analysts and Administrators on aspects of data modeling, normalization, table design, query processes, store procedures and triggers. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

· Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate HealthCare Partners’ (HCP) commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer.

· Performs installations and upgrades, and maintains multiple MS SQL Server database instances (in development, production and test environments).

· Follows SQL Server DBA standards, performance standards and benchmarks, and Service Level Agreements (SLA) for the CIS implementation at HCP.

· Provides assistance to IT staff, users and others for SQL Server endeavors.

· Develops documentation to support ongoing operation, maintenance and specific problem resolution.

· Contributes to the successful completion of SQL Server projects and tasks.  Provides in-house training for SQL Server network and applications.

· Works with developers and end-users to improve their ability to utilize system capabilities, determine problems and develop appropriate solutions.

· Works with and coordinates appropriate IS staff to implement solutions which will meet or exceed customer expectations.

· Coordinates users, internal IS resources and external vendors as needed on application and hardware upgrades or installations.

· Develops test plans and assists with application, hardware and systems testing as needed.

· Provides on-call assistance for the Customer Support Desk (CSD) and responds accordingly to reports of trouble as presented (which may include evenings and weekends).

· Uses, protects, and discloses HCP patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

· Performs additional duties as assigned.

 



EDUCATION:

 

· Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college and/or a professional certification requiring formal education beyond a two-year college, or equivalent experience.

· Microsoft SQL DBA certification.

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

Minimum:



· Over 5 years and up to and including 7 years of experience.

· Experience in MS SQL Server database administration, tuning and monitoring, DTS package, SQL, data modeling and normalization.

· Experience in healthcare.

 

Preferred:



· 5+ years of experience in the field designing and troubleshooting databases, network, server and desktop issues.

· Experience with database design, implementation, monitoring and administration.

· Experience with Microsoft Windows server/desktop and Microsoft Office implementations.

· Experience with SQL Server technologies, applications and implementations.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

 

· Proficient in Microsoft applications (Access, Excel, Word, Project).

· Familiarity with clustering and failover strategies.

· Ability to lead and direct the work of others.

· Ability to work from job order tickets with minimal supervision.

· Ability to work well with other technicians.

· Valid California driver’s license, car insurance and dependable vehicle.
