Set on a beautiful 300-acre campus north of Wilmington, Delaware, the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has 180 inpatient beds and offers all the major specialties of pediatric medicine, surgery and dentistry. The duPont Hospital is operated by Nemours, which provides institutions and services to improve the health of children. Employing over 400 pediatric physicians, subspecialists and surgeons, Nemours cared for approximately a quarter of a million children during nearly one million encounters in 2005, making Nemours one of the nation's largest children's health systems. In addition to the hospital, Nemours operates the Nemours Children's Clinic-Delaware Valley, which provides pediatric primary and specialty care at locations throughout Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania, and southern New Jersey, and Nemours Children's Clinics-Florida, which provide pediatric subspecialty care in Jacksonville, Orlando and Pensacola. The Health Information Management Department at AIDHC has an opportunity for a Coding Coordinator to coordinate and manage the daily workflow of the coding area of HIM. This position will require fifty percent of time performing coding respsonsibilites and insuring proper coding and abstracting of all hospital accounts according to established ICD-9-CM and CPT coding procedures and guidelines. The other fifty percent of the time, the Coordinator will function in a staff management capacity to include performing quality reviews, training of new staff, and other managerial duties within the Coding section.Specifically, the Coding Coordinator will: read and comprehend the medical record to help identify all diagnosis, operations and procedures relevant to the current period; select, assign and sequence the appropriate ICD-9-CM and CPT codes to patients' current period of care according to established sequencing guidelines for optimal reimbursement; assign the DRG to inpatient records according to established guidelines; abstract inpatient records in an accurate manner according to established procedures and guidelines; contract the appropriate healthcare provider if there is inadequate information on which to base code assignment; minimally code three to four inpatient charts per hour, ten outpatient surgery charts per hour, twenty emergency room charts per hour, and 175 outpatient charts per day with a 99% accuracy rate; demonstrate and incorporate a working knowledge of the Epic Care System for retrieval of clinical data for coding purposes This position requires a Bachelors degree in a related field; RHIT, RHIA or CCS certification; and, a minimum 5 years of progressive experience in coding and supervising staff. The ideal Coding Coordinator will: present a professional appearance at all times; be punctual and present; possess strong customer service skills; break down barriers and develop influential relationships with and across teams; build partnerships with peers; and pay attention to all aspects of the job to achieve/support high quality standards set for and by HIM. Nemours, an equal opportunity employer, is committed to focusing on the best-qualified applicants for our openings.
