Certified Nurse Practitioner

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary: Under general direction, provides patient care; conducts physical exams; completes health history summary; documents patients’ progress; assists with patient care management.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESMay include any and/or all of the following:

1.       Assists with patient care management; provides follow-up care to patients; updates physicians and surgeons on patients’ status.

 

2.       Keeps informed of inpatients’ progress by attending daily visits; documents progress in medical record charts; interacts with other local physician and healthcare facilities

 

3.       Completes patients' comprehensive health history summary and physical examinations; responsible for clinical resumes for discharged patients.

 

4.       Assists with pre-operative care for patients.

 

5.       Performs other duties as required.

·        Knowledgeable of health education on sexual health topics.

 

·         Knowledge of general and specific medical diagnoses and treatments, especially for women and adolescent girls; problem oriented recording; pharmaceutical treatments; health education methods and techniques and referral resources within the community in order to provide comprehensive treatment.

 

·         Knowledge of primary, acute and chronic healthcare management; basic laboratory work.

 

·         Knowledge of reproductive health care -including contraceptive counseling, dispensing, pregnancy testing, and health education on sexual health topics.  

 

·         Ability to complete written records in a timely manner.

 

·         Ability to communicate with women and adolescent girls;

 

·         Ability to respond well to emergencies in a stressful environment; handle potentially volatile situations in a calm, decisive manner and to recognize when consultation is needed

 

·         Ability to speak and understand Spanish preferred.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and experience equivalent to:

Masters degree in nursing, New Mexico RN license, and certification as a Certified Nurse Practioner required. Must have a DEA license.
