Behavioral Health Specialist I

Mercy Hospital continues to grow. We have per diem openings for Behavioral Health Specialists.

We seek individuals:

- Who consistently exhibit solid professional judgment, desire to pursue new information, while remaining current with technologies and regulations. 

- Possess above average interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to take direction from more senior members of the team.

- Are accountable for the work they perform as it may directly affect patient care. 

- Who will participate in and complete all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. 



Job Summary:

 

 

 

- Under the supervision of the Chief of Behavioral Health and the Administrator of Behavioral Health, the Behavioral Health Specialist I is available for requests from the Emergency Department and The Recovery Center to assess the emotional, social and environmental needs of adolescent through geriatric patients and families.

 

- The incumbent provides psychiatric assessment, counseling, information, community resource referrals, and arrangements for continuing care and/or coordinated discharge planning.

 

- Serves as an expert about, and as a liaison to, community resource programs and coordinates services between area providers for patients.

 

- The on-call position(s) must be available to respond to calls within 20 minutes.

 

- The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

- Position requires Baccalaureate education and training with licensure by the State of Maine Board of Social Work Registration as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Registered Nurse with Psychiatric Certification (RNC).

 

- Master's degree education together with licensure as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Registered Nurse Clinical Specialist (RNCS) is desirable.

 

- A minimum of two (2) years experience is required in a healthcare related field with a demonstrated knowledge of community resources and skill in assisting people to make major decisions while acutely or chronically ill.

 

- Institutional experience is desired. Hospital experience is preferred.

 

- While operating within the multidisciplinary team, must have the judgment and initiative to act as a catalyst in the planning for on-going patient and family care needs.

 

- Must have a high level of analytical and problem solving skills to assess and evaluate patient condition and to resolve psychosocial issues of varied levels of complexity.

 

- Must be highly accountable for the accurate and timely assessment of patient care needs, for maintaining the continuity of care coverage and for highly confidential patient information.
