Description

PURPOSE OF THE ROLEThe candidate will contribute to the drug discovery efforts by supporting research that is ongoing in the Cell Science group. The candidate will be responsible for protein expression of candidate therapeutics by generating and characterizing high-producing mammalian cell lines. INTERNALLY: The candidate will interact with other members of the Protein and Cell Sciences group as well as the upstream discovery organizations and downstream process development groups.EXTERNALLY: The candidate will foster relationships with non-EMD Serono scientists specializing in molecular and cell science. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESHe/she will be responsible for generating production cell lines for recombinant therapeutic proteins. Involves transfection, selection and cloning of mammalian cells (non-adherent). He/she will be responsible for performing ELISA assays to determine expression levels.He/she will be responsible for analytical characterization such as Western and Northern blots. He/she will be responsible for evaluating gene stability in stable cell linesHe/she will be responsible for cell banking of the production cell lines. He/she will generate, analyze and report results of experiments and present at group/departmental meetings.

He/she will ensure full documentation of their work.

This position is located in our Billerica, MA facility
EDUCATION/LANGUAGES MS or BS with 1-3 years experience Fluent in English PROFESSIONAL SKILLS && EXPERIENCEIt is essential that the candidate has a strong working knowledge of molecular and cell biology. Proven skills in mammalian cell culture, stable cell line development, and recombinant protein generation is essential. Experience with NSO and/or CHO cells in serum-free, suspension, tissue culture is desired. Experience with protein quantification by ELISA&'s and qualification by Western blots is essential. Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and flow cytometry is a plus. PERSONAL SKILLS && COMPETENCIESThe ideal candidate will be self-motivated, highly organized, multi-tasking, and detail and results oriented. He/ She must be able to work independently and as a team member. Excellent written, oral and collaborative skills are essential to effectively communicate scientific information.
