Assistant Director of Engineering

South Georgia Medical Center is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Engineering.  The Assistant Director of Engineering plans, organizes, directs activities of the Engineering Department which are necessary in maintaining South Georgia Medical Center and off-campus facilities physical structures, HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems, utilities, and grounds in an operative and safe working condition. Accountable to the Director of Engineering for planning and maintaining an effective organization for administering labor and material controls, training of maintenance personnel on life and general safety and effective management practices.   Acts as the Director of Engineering in his absence. Areas of responsibility include: the physical plant, structural maintenance, grounds, life and general safety. Coordinates all Environment of Care (EC) activities for South Georgia Medical Center and serves as consultant for affiliates. The assistant director of Engineering shall be accountable to the Director of Engineering for planning and maintaining an effective department for administering labor and material controls as well as training of engineering personnel for safety in the workplace, JCAHO and OSHA standards. Assists other Departmental Managers as needed in EC training.  Supports and participates in the CQI efforts to improve service.

 

The qualifications include a degree in industrial safety, fire science or engineering related fields with four years relevant experience preferred.  Experience in health care safety, as safety officer or EOC coordinator, is preferred.  Prefer working knowledge of JCAHO and other healthcare accrediting agencies i.e., CAP, CARF, OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies.  Minimum of three years of experience in supervision or management of engineering/maintenance department and personnel.  Prefer hospital engineering experience.  Ability to lead group sessions and train others.  Self motivated, capable of performing without close supervision;  Ability to interface with all  levels of the healthcare system;  Required computer skills for collation of information;  Ability to analyze data for improvement opportunities;  Utilizes discretion in handling confidential  information.
