AMBULATORY PAYMENT CLASS COORD
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Ambulatory Payment Classification Coordinator is responsible for assigning, monitoring and evaluating the assignment of CPT and HCPCS Level II procedure codes for grouping into Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APC's) for LRMC's charge master reimbursement and statistical reporting. The APC Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the hospital Medicare outpatient APC reimbursement, and to ensure that LRMC is receiving accurate reimbursement under Medicare APC regulations. The Coordinator, under the supervision of the Manager of Government Programs, assigns and monitors the accuracy of the assignment of ICD-9-CM, CPT and HCPCS Level II coding parameters, revenue code selection in the Hospital Charge Master (CDM), modifier guidelines, proper diagnosis and procedure code selection, documentation guidelines and reimbursement guidelines with regard to outpatient Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APC's) throughout the hospital. The APC Coordinator works as a liaison with the physicians and physician offices to ensure medical necessity documentation and compliance with all Medicare outpatient coding regulatory guidelines. Must identify opportunities for and contribute to the improvement of quality, safety and cost, as well as patient, customer, and employee satisfaction. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Preferred: None Required: Excellent written, organizational, Analytical, and critical thinking skills required. EDUCATION: Preferred: RHIT or RHIA certification Required: CCS within one year of employment EXPERIENCE: Preferred: None Required: Extensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM coding principles and guidelines. Knowledge of reimbursement systems required. Extensive knowledge of Federal, State, and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing required. At least 5 years of coding experience is required.
