View this video View our Career Video Length: 2:39 min The Sensor Systems Line of Business focuses on sensor and precision targeting systems. The Mission Electronics area exploits state-of-the-art infrared, millimeter-wave, and laser technologies to design and fabricate missile seekers, guided munitions, and target designators. The Infrared Imaging systems area produces uncooled IR sensors and related systems for defense, civil and commercial applications. The area has three primary segments: military ground imaging systems, surveillance sensors/systems, and commercial/industrial subsystems. The Sensor Integration area produces robust, highly integrated, mission-critical equipment for detection, situational awareness, and protection for U.S. and allied military forces and homeland security personnel. Key product areas include mine countermeasures, countermeasure dispensers, laser warning systems, and unattended ground sensors. The Flight systems business area provides military and commercial aircraft modification and upgrades, aircraft operations, flight test, and aerial subscale and full-scale targets. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: Design, develop and implement packaging of IRFPAs (Infrared Focal Plane Assemblies) into cryogenic packages integrated with mechanical coolers and having multi-year vacuum life. Integral knowledge and experience in design and assembly techniques of long-life passive cryogenic vacuum vessels required. Procurement and precision assembly of optical, mechanical and electronic components in cryogenic vacuum packages is expected. Assist test engineering personnel in radiometric testing of assembled units. Develop assembly techniques and supervise assembly personnel in component integration of final product. GENERIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the Product Design Team. Support senior engineering personnel in the design, development and selection of basic hardware components utilizing fundamental mechanical engineering principles, theories and techniques. Assigned duties may include design and development of specific packaging modules, mechanisms or components to meet design requirements. Definitize design requirements to meet project objectives. Perform Mechanical Analyses. Obtain working knowledge of company standard analysis tools. Perform basic static, dynamic and heat transfer analyses of mechanical structures. Compile/analyze data for presentation to customers and project engineering personnel. Verification/Validation of Design. Support the fabrication and environmental testing of design hardware. Assume responsibility for the design and fabrication of prototype hardware. Support the environmental testing of hardware including: vibration, shock, thermal, fatigue and others as required. Document results for review. Prepare Documentation. Generate and review the technical content of drawings, engineering specifications, reports and other documentation associated with the mechanical design. Support Continuous Improvement. Acquire a working knowledge of IEWS' Quality System and the Mechanical Design Process. Acquire up-to-date knowledge of developments in mechanical engineering disciplines. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required. Included will be management of task risks in terms of cost, schedule and technical requirements. QUALIFICATIONS:Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university or its equivalent. Minimum of 5 years of experience with cryogenics, vacuum packaging, and opto - packaging.1. Proficiency in Pro Engineering2. Familiarization with coolers and advanced dewar assembly and focal planes3. Demonstrated responsibility/leadership for all aspects of project task execution, 4. Military/DoD project execution experience, 5. Strong desire to work in a team environment, 6. Ability to work with project team in developing and defining product specifications consistent with project requirements and low cost producibility. 7. Ability to work in an engineering development and also low volume production environment. Experience with Detector Dewars a preference but not a requirement.
