Safety Services Specialist
Under the supervision of the City Safety Administrator, this mid-management position  assists in planning, conducting, coordinating, evaluating and maintaining a comprehensive occupational safety program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the job include, but are not limited to the following: Conducts considerable inspections of facility and field operations and working conditions to check for regulatory compliance, unsafe conditions, and hazardous practices. Attends and/or conducts monthly safety meetings and accident review committees in each City department. Assists in developing, writing, coordinating and implementing city-wide safety programs and policies. Conducts accident investigations and submits written reports to determine causes of accidents and recommends corrective action to prevent future occurrences. Researches and writes reports on topics for use in developing safety programs, responding to safety concerns, and conducting training. Conducts ergonomic assessments for employees. Utilizes computerized systems to track and identify accident causes to make recommendations for the prevention of similar injuries and illnesses. Acts as a liaison, and provides support to for the City's Departmental Safety Coordinators. Makes accident prevention recommendations and explains safety laws and regulations to managers, supervisors and employees. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of their position are performed in a safe, efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of: the laws and regulations relating to safety including CAL/OSHA Construction, Electrical, and General Industry Safety Orders; DMV laws, ANSI standards that relate to Safety, NFPA codes, and other applicable Federal and State regulations; accident investigation techniques; personal computer fundamentals including the use of Microsoft Windows operating system, Outlook, Word, and Excel; ergonomic assessment methods and techniques highly desirable.
General knowledge of: the State of California's Worker's Compensation Laws; Industrial Hygiene Practices.
Skill in: organizing and prioritizing assignments; making independent judgments and decisions based on standard policy or procedure; interpersonal interactions with individuals.
Ability to: draft comprehensive written reports pertaining to accident investigations, hazard concerns, and safety programs; conduct facility and worksite inspections for regulatory violations and workplace hazards; conduct research on safety-related topics; interpret laws and standards and apply them to particular situations; utilize and maintain a computerized database to track and analyze injury/illness data information; compose written documentation of accident investigations, safety inspections, and safety-related projects and reports; speak in front of groups of employees; read, write and comprehend directions in English; handle confidential information with discretion; establish and maintain effective working relationships and deal with all levels of employees; foster a teamwork environment.

Willingness to be on 24 hour call; work overtime as requested; assume responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment.EXPERIENCETwo years of experience in an industrial safety setting. EDUCATION/TRAINING
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, or a related field.LICENSE
Valid California Class C Driver's License is required.
