Battelle is a world leader in science and technology research. Our Applied Biology and Aerosol Technology (ABAT) Product Line specializes in providing support to government and commercial organizations interested in the development, evaluation, and implementation of materials, devices, and techniques designed to detect, provide protection against, and mitigate the effects of chemical, biological, and radiological hazards. Battelle's ABAT group is currently seeking qualified individuals with backgrounds in Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related disciplines to fill a Biological Sciences Research Associate position. Compensation will be based on relevant qualifications and experience. Battelle offers competitive compensation and benefits programs. Primary job responsibilities will include: o Supporting the design, execution, analysis, and reporting of experiments rooted in biochemistry, molecular biology, virology and microbiology within structured regulatory and quality frameworks (e.g., Select Agent regulations and ISO 9001:2000) o Participation in data reduction, data review, and data compilation adhering to accepted practices o Development of marketing of ideas for presentation to prospective clients o Training of junior scientists o Presentation and reporting of progress and results to senior scientists Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to perform certain technical administration functions, as necessary, to ensure smooth functioning of experiments and timely distribution of program deliverables, including data analyses, briefing materials, and technical reports. A moderate amount of domestic travel is anticipated. Candidate resumes must demonstrate the following minimum requirements in order to be forwarded for consideration: o Master's Degree (or Bachelor's Degree, with minimum of three years of relevant experience) in the life sciences with a background in microbiology, virology, molecular biology, biotechnology, and/or biochemistry, with practical experience working with microbial pathogens and/or toxins of importance to public health, agriculture, and/or the environment o Between 3 and 5 years of experience in a laboratory-based facility, including a demonstrated proficiency in advanced laboratory techniques, such as PCR, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, and nucleic acid sequencing, and a proven ability to plan and conduct research studies o Excellent oral and written communication skills o The ability to work in a team environment o Willingness to work in a Biological Safety Level 3 laboratory o Willingness to participate in a vaccination program o Sole U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment o Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory and in the field to perform assigned duties. Additional selection criteria will include experience with bioaerosols (instrumentation, sampling, and data interpretation), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and ISO 9001 requirements, and strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, and the Windows operating system).
