JOB DESCRIPTION
The Metal Hydride Center of Excellence team at Sandia/California is looking for self-motivated, creative, and experienced individuals to perform experimental investigations in state-of-the-art metal hydride research. Our current projects include discovering new materials that will meet the DOE targets for on-board storage. This postdoctoral appointee will work on a new project to incorporate advanced hydrogen storage materials into nanoframework structures. Experimental work will include development of synthesis techniques using a wide variety of methods, including wet-chemical, solid-state, and other novel techniques; characterization and assessment of hydrogen storage capacity; and basic materials science. A wide range of equipment and expertise is available at Sandia National Laboratories, including high pressure (1000 bar) hydrogen systems, a hydrogen laboratory with several manifolds for performing sorption kinetics and PCTs, TGA, DSC, X-ray diffraction, Raman and FTIR spectroscopies, and TEM and SEM electron microscopy. We have a surface science team with capabilities including low energy ion scattering (LEIS), low energy electron scattering (LEED), STM, and much more. These activities involve collaborative efforts with partners in industry, universities, and other research labs.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Ph.D. in materials science, chemistry, physics, or related field. Applicants should possess experience in nanoscience, specifically in nanoframework materials. Applicants who have extensive experience in various characterization techniques are preferred. Other required qualifications include a proven record of solid scientific research including publications and presentations, as well as strong, versatile teamwork and communication skills.
