Who We Are
Ireland Army Community Hospital (IACH) serves the Fort Knox community with primary and specialty care providers. Our healthcare team staffs a troop medical clinic and a Battalion Aid Station to provide acute care services to Knox’s Initial Entry Trainees. We maintain a Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB) for the explicit purposes of offering comprehensive, multidisciplinary care planning and treatment of Soldiers injured in preparation for or execution of war. We have an Optical Fabrication Laboratory that makes glasses and mask inserts for most of the Soldiers in the Eastern United States. In addition to Kentucky, Ireland Army Community Hospital's area of responsibility also includes Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Much of the health care provided to our beneficiaries in our health service area is provided through the Department of Defense's health care program called TRICARE. TRICARE is the military health plan that allows active duty Soldiers and their family members access to health services even though they are not near a military facility.
Warrior Transition Battalion
We are an Army at war. Ireland Army Community Hospital supports the war effort by providing the highest quality and most comprehensive medical care for Soldiers returning from the battlefield. Our wounded and ill Soldiers are part of the newly established Warrior Transition Battalion. The Warrior Transition Battalion is a transition assistance unit located on Fort Knox with the mission of overseeing the health, welfare, and morale of Warriors receiving medical care. By design, the unit has a robust staff that allows doctors and nurses to focus on medical care, Nurse Case Managers to manage medical care; and unit cadre to focus on meeting all Command and Control (C2) functions. The WTB consists of command teams, a staff, and a company or companies encompassing the Triad of Warrior Support all dedicated to helping Warriors transition.
