General SummaryRequires specialized training to weld various metals utilizing a full range of welding processes. Requires the ability, skills and experience in various welding processes to make welds that will pass x-ray inspection. Shall be able to successfully pass all required qualification tests and maintain those qualifications. Must be capable of layout of weld fabrications. Shall weld assigned parts as required while maintaining proven time, quality and performance standards. Requires the ability to work under general supervision. Requires a working knowledge of shop mathematics and properties of materials typically fabricated and welded.Principal Duties and Responsibilities1. Must pass and maintain welding certifications as required for job assignments. Shall be skilled at using weld related functions such as grinding, gouging, straightening, blasting, etc.2. Works from process sheets, engineering drawings/specifications, sketches and written/oral instructions. Will work to close tolerances and inspect work using precision measuring instruments. Will complete manufacturing/quality control reports.3. Is required to make complex setups and accomplish precise alignment of work piece for fabrication to extremely close tolerances.4. Is required to layout fabricated parts for machining.5. Performs all work to all established standards.6. Repairs machined parts and related components.7. Skilled in performing work assignments which require accomplishing untried tasks or methods for process improvement.8. Responsible for independently performing tasks requiring accuracy and application of advanced shop mathematics.9. Maintains and returns to the proper storage area all equipment such as tooling, jigs, fixtures and gages.10. Performs operator maintenance functions such as daily lubrication, grinding dust/ slag removal, and the cleaning of machines, table, surrounding area.11. Rigs/loads/unloads parts or equipment from tables and positioners/manipulators utilizing special handling equipment as needed.12. Assists others in obtaining solutions to quality issues.13. Is responsible for adhering to established safety rules and practices.14. Trains other welders as required.15. Works under general supervision. Works closely with Supervisor, Manufacturing Engineer, Planner, and other personnel to enhance productivity and part quality.16. Perform shop related functions such as wash rack, stock room, rod crib, etc.Basic Qualifications1. Must have the knowledge and ability to set and use various welding machines as required by job assignment.2. Must have the ability to layout fabricated parts for machining.3. Must have the knowledge and skill to set, use, and read precision measuring instruments.4. Must have the knowledge of, and the ability to apply algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric functions to blueprint dimensions in the fabrication of complex products.5. Must have the ability to read and interpret multi-paged complex blueprints.6. Must have the ability, confidence, and self motivation to apply talents independently and with good judgment.7. Must possess the ability to perform prototype manufacturing.Physical DemandsThe work requires employee to stand for long periods, stoop, bend, reach, and climb. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
