Historic Houses Resident Engineer

Job Responsibilities: Monitor and coordinate contractors performing construction work on Parks’ Historic Houses under Capital contracts. Work closely with the Historic House Trust and Capital Borough Teams to resolve design and construction issues. View and comment on contract plans and specifications. Ensure that contractors adhere to plans and specifications. Identify and resolve field condition issues. Write daily and weekly construction project reports and keep calculation book. Prepare cost projections. Correspond with contractors and clarify construction issues. Review and approve contractor’s payment requisitions. Schedule and run meetings. Maintain accurate records and write reports. Work with Architect or Engineer of record regarding change orders, interpretation of documents, shop drawing approvals and other architectural and engineering related issues.
Qualification requirements:
1. (a) A Master’s degree from an accredited college with a specialization in historic preservation, architectural history, art history, architecture, or American history; and (b) one year of full-time satisfactory experience working in the fields of preservation, restoration, or conservation of historic structures; or conducting research in architectural or art history, or working as an architect or architectural assistant; or teaching at the college level in any of the fields described in (a); or
2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a specialization in any of the fields listed in “1(a)” above, and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in “1(b)” above; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above. Graduate study in any field listed in “1(a)” above can be substituted for up to one year of required experience on the basis that 30 graduate credits is equivalent to 1 year of experience. However, all candidates must have a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a specialization in any of the fields listed in “1(a)” above and one year of full-time satisfactory experience as described in “1(b)” above.
Preferred qualifications: Construction inspection or construction management work on capital projects with a value of $500,000 or more and/or internships in a respective field of study. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of AutoCAD, PhotoShop, PowerPoint and 3D rendering. Valid New York State driver license.
