Field Services Technician

The Oregon Department of Transportation was established in 1969 to provide a safe, efficient transportation system that supports economic opportunity and livable communities for Oregonians. ODOT develops programs related to Oregon's system of highways, roads, and bridges; railways; public transportation services; transportation safety programs; driver and vehicle licensing; and motor carrier regulation.

Field Services Technician This position is a Limited Duration appointment expected to end on or before June 30, 2009.

The Field Services Technician provides technical support for client/server systems deployed statewide by Information Systems (IS). Participate in a team focused on analyzing Oregon Department of Transportation's (ODOT) business requirements relative to technology solutions and managing projects to deploy that technology. Provide technical consulting and assistance for a complex multi-platform, multi-vendor distributed statewide computing environment. The salary range is $3654-$5276/month. This position is located in Portland.

As a Field Services Technician you will:
Provide on-site and/or phone diagnosis and solutions. Initiate troubleshooting calls to vendors. Determine and resolve systems conflicts. Evaluate and replace required parts and equipment as needed. Assist users in accessing the ODOT network via direct network connection. Install initial software including configuration, testing and troubleshooting. Create documentation for new installations and troubleshooting guidelines. Monitor local area network traffic and local server performance to aid IS technology units in trend analysis and load balancing. Assist with troubleshooting for WAN or LAN problems. Provide customers with information that would lead to solutions for business needs and introduce new technology solutions to agency. Coordinate office moves with Information Systems for the business and other projects. Diagnose new or unique error codes and determine cause. Report software problems to management. Evaluate and make recommendation on new software solutions to meet business needs. Consider, identify, analyze, and document version compatibility prior to and upon installation. Position Qualifications include: Three years of professional consultative, technical, or administrative experience which includes designing, constructing, or analyzing information systems. Experience must include activities in a computer/desktop support environment and either: at least 30 quarter (20 semester) credits in computer science; or (b) two more years of experience providing knowledge of information systems theory and principles. 15 quarter (10 semester) graduate-level computer science, software engineering, information systems, or equivalent credits may substitute for one year of the professional experience. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
